Updating the inbuilt Mib2 Satnav / Mib2 tricks and Mib1

So if I understand correctly, MIB2 gets linked with the card/map in 2 ways:
- it will only accept the same physical card because the CID of the card gets registered with the activation of the card in MIB2.
- then the NDS file of the map gets registered with the activation in MIB2. That's why you need the same NDS when we do the map update.

Am I right?

I would like to know if the card is tied to the car too. I am loathed to format the original card, even thought I appreciate you can make a copy of it. I was hoping to install the new mapping onto a new SD card, and then just copy the NDS file from my original card

Basically it.

I wouldn't worry. Loads of people have copied the card, reformatted it (fat32 only) or deleted it, and done the workaround. It's not a problem. If you have Linux skills and get an old Samsung card that are sold for the purpose you can copy the CID. The cards cost about £40. You can Google the utilities, the card, but if you use a PC with Windows you need to dual boot into Linux. I chickened out at that stage after buying the card. Didn't want to messes up my PC. Exciter who devised the workaround went onto create a backup card which is on the thread for his personal satisfaction but not necessary.

Correct. The last 100%. The first - how I understand it that each card has a unique CID, not that the series release all share the same CID. Somebody with standard mib2 on two cars on the same release of the card could check that. It's how satnav files were historically locked to the devices. The NDS file is a riggle to this process.

Thanks my retrofit firmware is playing up on 184 so I didn't report back (our Walone & myself private conversation on the matter, not so unlimited, matters in hand). I noted that on the German Skoda board and the Russian link they had it installed fine.

Ah so you bought post car purchased Mapcare as I gave you the serial number, that which we can't buy in the UK. Wasn't so sure whether you had a one off map upgrade or bought Mapcare. Evident Mapcare.

Glad you are getting on well with it. Pity we can't buy it in the UK although I think the Seat version is limited to three years whilst VW & Skoda is unlimited and isn't marketed as such now.

My third update and it went beyond the limits of the firmware so reverted back to 177 away from being locked out. Recognised that it wasn't going to be good from my earlier explorations of the SWDL menu and it wasn't. You'll use the normal front end menu. Seeing Fs and ERR in the back end menu means if you upload this map it will lock you out within 30 seconds. Wonder what you'll see when your three years is up. Should really warn you or perhaps it just doesnt recognise the SD card. I'll have to have a look to see what German Ateca owners are saying who's time will have been up by now who bought it with their car.

Before I didn't have MapCare activated Im receiving errors when Im try update map by car interface(normal methode) so probably after expired license I will get same errors ... Maybe I can after 3 years rebuy MapCare and extend it for another 3 years :) but probably I will just go with android auto navigation...

They seem to be happy bunnies with the Plus on the German Ateca board with 184 so perhaps the 3 year limit of Mapcare doesn't apply anymore. Might need further research. Edit. No those with their three year European Seat Mapcare aren't happy bunnies as it runs out.

It could be flagged by the upload or the firmware. If you made Mapcare unlimited you'd at a future point have a lot of units that would need their firmware changed, perhaps they just change a toggle and say if you have Mapcare it's now unlimited. On that basis the issue would never come up. Probably how they implemented free unlimited Mapcare for those that bought it ($). In Oz and America they had a recall when Mapcare was given to VW customers. Will be the FeC licenses which is what Mapcare must be post installed which causes the firmware to behave differently. For the standard I think that German board has the workaround in their file base which is here in anycase.

($) for retrofits mib2 highs they just got to obey that toggle correctly. Hopefully some good news soon :).

Edit. If obeying Mapcare it uses a SWAP / FeC that controls the ability to update the maps from quarter to quarter. Posted the decode of the quarter code further down in the thread after more research and a practical issue with my unit which pin pointed the quarters. Basically the units turn off to the ability to take a map update as they hit the end point which is in quarters. Those units without Mapcare have their SWAP / FeC code set to the quarter that the maps were released on the vehicle so can't be updated. Think that VW / Skoda units probably ignore the Mapcare logic or set the SWAP / FeC code low - I've seen what appear to be a Mapcare field on a Skoda with unlimited Mapcare where it's set low but that might be just how the fields are populated. .

For updates you follow this link:

https://www.seat.com/owners/my-seat/navigation/map-updates.html

I think you have a mib1 from the date and 5F code that is bring shown. If you haven't got Mapcare on that or some form of retrofit you are hard pressed to update it.

If it's like the mib2 screen you go navigation, advanced and information or words to that effect and it should show you the map year and release serial number. I've never had mib1 so can't be clear. I'm assuming it's a mib1 standard with the map on the SD card.

Thank you, yeah i have mib1, but does it matter from wich year it is? Because on the link you gave me its only for the models from 2016-, and my is 2015?

They were only showing mib2 on that link. 6P is standard. 5F is mib1 which puts it at pre 2016 as you say. We don't know of any DIY map upgrades for mib1 standard. I was going to ask the retrofit specialists today about mib1 standard but had enough issues getting my mib2 Plus / High sorted out for the latest map update so it fell off the back as numerous attempts were made to sort out the firmware. False farewells down the road and returning when traffic sign recognition failed. Now sorted :).

MIB2 Std new maps

I thought I caught sight of something, but not at home suffering from map upgrade exhaustion at the minute ;). Still to get home from the northern power house of retrofitting :).

Is that all Europe mib2 standard ?. If someone wants to check look in the maps 00 folder each of the zoned updates is assembled there or there abouts so a cross check with 1310 would reveal what's in 1430.

I see it's on this board.

https://www.skodacommunity.de/threa...9-release-2020-fuer-mib1-mib2.103181/page-110

Google's currently not finding it elsewhere.

The Skoda portal in German says that whilst 1310 all Europe version fits on a 16gb card it may not in the future. Whether this has been reached will have to be tested. Evident that TomTom cartography growth must be considered to be bigger than the all European cards were specified, hence the zoning. I guess we'll see zoned releases again. I install the all European release on a standard much preferring that to deciding which zone to take.

Mapcare workarounds are presented a few pages up. Don't delete the contents of the card anyone without taking a back up copy !.

See post 1809 / 1810

https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?threads/navigation-system-updates.388586/page-91

using the newest link in 1 when deemed to be appropriate.

Those two posts bring together a bullet proof update for mib2 standard. People cut corners then run into problems.

Edit. Yep it's this for the all European map, November 2019 release. No particular bugs with it after doing the simulated test route around MK as I did before with 1310. Motorway max speeds are not shown. Trailer speed issue hasn't reappeared.

If you're worried about wiping the original card, backup the data at file level by copying the files from the SD card to your PC. Then use Win32DiskImager to copy each and every block on the SD card to your PC. This is and exact copy of your SD card. This would be to put your mind at rest that you've got a 2nd, foolproof, way of backing up your SD card. The image wouldn't be able to be used on another SD card with the intention of using it as a replacement for the SatNav.
