truCido - Love your project. Your cage looks very good! I'd love to gut this Leon but the joy of it is at the moment, it's a do anything car. Perfectly fine for daily use but great on track with the shocks wound up a bit, hence I'll probably leave the trim in.

Overkill indeed regarding the brakes but my mate says they just do not fade! so I'm not going to grumble that they're on there. Plus it's not exactly a light car in it's full fat trim.

Thanks dude! I race with an LCR, you'd love his car I'm sure :)

I bet they don't fade lol but the sheer unsprung weight of them and the cost of replacing discs and pads when it comes to it is probably quite uneconomical for a road car. I know you didn't fit them but I think its crazy someone spend £2k on those brakes for a road car

Good luck with the car. The list of mod's is epic! Looks like it has been a no expense spared project of someone's. I see from that list what the car has but I think it must have a 3" downpipe to sound so :censored: on lift-off.
Get a build thread made when you buy it, very cool car would like to see more of it.

Evening lads,

thought I'd give a brief update. I've got the car home now after taking my 911 down for a service. My mate Jamie, who is selling the Leon runs Nelson Porsche, Stockton, where I get my car done.

I've got the car for 2 weeks (or for good if I like it) to see how I get on with it. First impressions are quite good. Great on petrol and totally smooth and docile when just pottering to work, yet great fun when pressing on.

Things I don't like are front wheel drive, I usually only drive rear wheel drive, and also it doesn't feel quite as "hewn from granite" as my BMWs do, but hey for £4000 it's pretty damn good, given what's been spent and the fact I can do trackdays in it without the need for a track-only car which hardly gets used. I made that mistake last year.

Damn it! Just spent ages linking pics from my photobucket account and it still won't let me post until I've had 15 posts. Bugger!

Anyway, once again thanks for the help a little while back.

I'll update this thread if I keep it. I think I will.

With regards to why the lad went form the '28 turbo to the KKK. A quick look at the history folder has revealed it is a hybrid KKK, so I'm guessing it's running quite unstressed at only 305BHP?
I can hear the turbo start whistling from around 2000rom even when just driving gently. Is this a boost leak or just the norm?

It spools up quite smoothly. One thing I hate is the dump valve and that wastegate chatter sort of noise back through the Carbonio intake thingy. I'm a bit old for dump valves at 34. :)
Having said that if I'm smooth and just pottering to work it doesn't do it so that's ok.

I'll be getting it on the rollers before the summer for a power run and to check the fuelling so I'll report back on what power it's still making. Last graph was 303bhp.

I chased a cheeky Civic Type R the other day and was sitting on his back bumper, just rolling on and off the throttle, while he was doing banzai revs puffing black smoke, so it's definitely more than 200 anyway. ;)

Not that I'm a boy-racer or anything but Type R's were the other car on my shortlist for this summers trackdays so I thought I'd have a play.

Cheers lads.
Mark.

FWD always seem to scratch the tarmac like a cat hanging on a curtain well over the magic 200+ club unless youre talking serious money pinching steering /suspension mods, , A mates M3 even though RWD seems far more planted than any FWD ive been in,

Get a few pics up , & a few of the 911 ;)

edit* beat me too it!

Hi Steely,

yep that's exactly what they're like, scrabbling for grip, etc. It's nothing like as bad as old Ford RS Turbos etc which is what I cut my teeth on many moons ago. Like you say though RWDs give you that lovely push up the road so the front wheels just have to steer.

Here's a pic or 2 of my old 911 - I didn't want to start posting them as it's not really relevant to Leons and I didn't want to look like a posing Porsche knob. I'm not. I'm just a working class North-east lad who works hard to try and fund his car habit. :)

Car looks nice mate and a good spec go for it. Get the internals done save the hassle when they go.

[B)] Very nice!, Nah i doubt many would see it that way anyway mate,

I agree on the wheels, a nice set of CH's would suit it better, ( the leon that is)

Not sure if its already been done to the LC but if youre finding it scratching away more than you expected try sticking a ths/powerflex dongbone mount bush on it, reduces engine throw and reduces wheelhop drastically, only downside being at idle it can resonate through the steering a tad, but it soon disappears, the pros far outweigh the cons,

i'll keep my eyes peeled in the works van too, do service work for Dodds & barnes & woodhouse near/around Stockton every month or so

Thomo - Yep, I think I'll have to for piece of mind. Is it a job for a good but non-specialist local garage, or should I be looking at a VAG specialist.

Any idea on cost for rods inc. fitting? I'm guessing I'll have to chuck new rings and big ends at it too, then run it all in?

Yep Steely it has that dogbone mount. I think I just need to recalibrate for FWD. The car drives nice and tight, no rattles or play. It just pulls a bit when boosting out of bends but that's the nature of the beast I suppose..

Marky 911 it’s all about your budget. I would use a specialist either VW or a tuning company. If it was me I would call a couple places and see what they think. You will be able to gauge roughly if they know what they’re talking about when you speak to them.

I am new to the VAG scene so not up to speed yet.
