Split the key with a small screwdriver using the little cut out in the middle of the key, then pop the little badge off (quite difficult to not damage it but i used a pen knife) and there is philips screw behind it. Remove screw and key will come apart. Find little glass transponder (its glued in the corner) and remove (carefully if you need it or not if you dont lol) and fit new transponder with a blob of glue. Reverse to rebuild key mate and i used a litle blue tac to stick the badge back so if i ever need to remove it again i wont damage it (had it in the key for 8 months now and has never fallen out).
cheers dainott2105, will have a go tonight when home and sort with garage after two weeks of sunshine in majorca - hopefully all will be good and x2 flip key for me
You will need your SKC code before you can do anything key related on VAG-COM. The car will not "forget" your other key unless you tell it to.
If you don't have your SKC, you'll need VAG-Tacho to extract it from your immobiliser. If you're near North Yorkshire/Teeside, give me a shout and I'll do it for you.

Actually, I have the manual that has a sticker in the front with a load of different codes and stuff I don't understand, paint codes, consumption etc...
Also a sticker with a bar code, and another thing with another bar code... maybe these contain the SKC?
The SKC is 4 digits regardless of whether its pre or post facelift. The dealer gets a 7 digit code sent over the VAG network direct to the car when coding keys.
If you pull the immo code using VAG tacho it is always 4 digits and this will allow you to program your immobiliser to accept new keys using either VAG-Com or VAG-Tacho. You will not find it on the sticker in the front of your service book.
