Transponder reprogramming!

I've managed to muller the transponder in the spare key trying to get it out. The flip key i purchased has a transponder inside, but it most probably has been programmed to a vw car.

I know it can be reprogrammed, but I cant seem to find a place, or if anyone has Vag-com and knows how to do it, i'd be happy to pay for the service...!

Does anyone know a place in East London that can reprogram transponders? or anywhere in london?

The dealers will do it for you. Also try a few key cutting places because there is a guy in town where I live who said he can program them - (I haven't been there yet as its a good hr drive away)

i've got a stealer doing x2 keys for me next week
1 is spanking new bargain of fleabya
1 is an old vw one
so should be interesting as both keys were cut and been tested in boot and opened all good

can't wait for x2 flip keys and x2 original as been sitting in draw for months now

I thought that all keys for a car had different transponder codings so that the car's security system can send out a rolling code - a different rolling code to each key as it can recognise the different keys, or am I getting confused between the engine security system and the remote unlocking system? If you get a shoe bar to code a key it will just copy or clone the key to another one, I thought that this would lead to sync'ng problems later on as you swop between keys.

Seat Sidcup charge £45.83 incl VAT to reprogram a transponder. They will not program the transponder alone, it must be in a key. Also they do not sell the transponder on its own.

ERS in Romford (http://www.erscarsystems.com/) charge £40 to reprogram a transponder. They cannot guarantee it will work even though the computer says it has.(this is due to the 4 changes along the line of production of transponder locks) YOU must make sure you have a virgin transponder to ensure it will work...

No probs :). For the price of them you may as well have a fresh new one. Mine was a used VW key and it didn't work. Luckily I had to go back to the dealer anyway and they did the recoding free of charge with the new transponder. I don't think a Timpsons or wherever can code the transponders. I'm pretty sure the process involves both keys and the VAG.com software is used to 'talk' to the ECU/Immobiliser, remove both keys from the immobs memory and recode them both anew. Someone else with more software knowledge wil confirm but £45 aint a bad price from the dealer. Unless someone with the software can help you out and you have the SKC code.

im not annoyed with the fact it only cost them 34p to post, i know man time costs, but at least put some effort into making sure it arrives safely at the other end!!!

im hoping seat sidcup will fit me in this saturday

i was just surprised, i work for a gift website and would never of let that go like that

i cant wait now, fingers crossed the local key cutter will do the key for me. :funk:

just rang ers up and im slightly confused...

apparently it takes 1 hour to code the transponder using some sort of program called auto.... somthing. i thought it would only take 5mins?!?! can programming take that long?

also i asked if i could get a normal key cutter to cut the key but it needs to be laserd?

also the price jumped to £60, i questioned this as before i was told £40 AND Seat only charge £45, he agreed to make it £40.... i think i'd rather pay seat as they will be sure whats what!

So seat charge £45 to program the key and they are happy to just do the programming cos i was worried that they would be funny about just doing the programming as i need one done soon, so happy with that!

sidcup are fully booked on the weekend, so will pop down during the week.
i've explained my situation and they were happy to quote me £45.83 for the service. shouldnt take longer than 30mins. I have the SKC number so it should be easy for them. a very quick buck for them

It isn't the transponder that is being programmed, it's the immobiliser control unit in the dash panel. The VAG diagnostic equipment or 1551 code reader provides the programming interface.

The only process I've seen requires that all the keys to be used on the car are present so that they can all be registered with the immobiliser one after another. I assume this means that the process starts by wiping existing keys from the memory. This would be good security, as it makes certain that the keys you have, and only the keys you have, are registered with the immobiliser.

Depending on the version of the immobiliser, they must also get hold of a security code from VAG, using the diagnostic equipment, which is sent directly to the equipment itself, not emailed or written down. Finally they have to make sure all the keys work. So there is a bit of work involved, and it could take up to an hour in some cases, I guess.

Did they ask you to provide all the keys, or just one? I know others have posted on here about having just one key added to the immobiliser, so I guess it must be possible, but the process isn't one I've seen published. Mind you, you don't want it to be easy :)

Yea thats what i was just thinking when i read that. If you have the 7 digit SKC number then sure it can all be done on VAG-COM.
