The Cupra Cave by Tony Stark

The Cupra Cave is now complete after the installation of the floor today. I've made my garage a little fun project over the past few months and thought now it's done I'd share the results with you.



I got fed up of the constantly peeling painted floor, no matter what I tried the paint would start to peel after a few weeks.



I thought fitting would take me a while longer but my good friend Tony Stark happened to be passing and dropped in to lend a hand. Turns out he's a dab hand with a rubber mallet and his laser came in handy for cutting the detail tiles.



Usually we keep the Ferrari in the garage...



When the Ferrari is out the Cupra fits in just perfectly too:

Very nice - wish I had a double garage (reduced to attaching foam to the walls to protect the doors when I get out!). I was going to paint the floor but was worried about the peeling you photo'd above... might take a look at those tiles.

Thanks, I still need wall protection for the car in the right hand garage, no way to avoid that. I've colour coded the protection in - OCD or what!!??

IMO the paint is a waste of time and money, no matter what you do it will lift and peel. More on that below.

Fair point, we've tried many methods to get the paint to stick. None of them have worked for us in 10 years of painting. Whatever we've tried the paint has peeled and flaked. The paint works fine away from the tyre contact areas.

Oh and if you like sticky tyres like R888s/MPSS the problem gets far worse.

Just IME of course, there may well be a painting method that truly works and can resist tyre pick up.

I must have a filthy mind then, as my lockup has so much junk in, I can hardly get out the Cupra without falling over the CBF.

Ah I see, I diagnose a common problem known mostly in men called toomanytoys. This is said to stem from childhood, the most prevalent symptoms are never growing up and increasingly expensive toys. Alas, there is no known cure but yet another new and shiny toy is thought to alleviate the symptoms for sometime although this seems to be shorter after each new acquisition.

I think you need the sort of floor paint they use in professional workshop environments as well as making sure the floor is 100% dry and grease free before applying it. The average domestic consumer grade floor paint just isn't up to the job in my experience.
