It's been some months since I made reports on this thread and thought to share an update. I've just come back from smc Woking seat and spent 3 hours on software updates. The dealer was not at all surprised by the issue. Regular thing.

They've applied the manufacturers code but commented they've applied a fix release they specifically use. In the 23 mile drive home there was no pops or bangs from the centre speaker. There was plenty on the way there. Noticed the car voice has gone to male and the air conditioning label has changed to say clima now. Not explored fully but it does perform quicker. I'll reply back in a month after some usage and see if the sos appears. It was doing it all the time prior to the update.

A temp work around I used was to press the sos button for at 2 minutes. The sos call will start 30 seconds later. Cancel and the sos goes away until the next time.

Do you know what version update you got? Was it 1896?

We too use SMC Woking (who are very good). Our car (Leon FR 150) was in last week and had a new control unit fitted. A few days after that, we had the double pop through the speakers but, on this occasion, the "error" message was the the SOS system was Active (as opposed to disabled). We're also still having air bag issues and, querying our early software version (1672) received the following reply from the garage.

"The factory has been working on an improved software update to address the above complaints on model year 2021 (MY21) and MY22 SEAT and CUPRA Leon and CUPRA Formentors with specific PR codes (listed within the TPI). This TPI does NOT apply to vehicles built before WK48/2020, with (SW) Software levels 16xx. A communication is expected around week 13."

Our car was delivered in Nov 2020 so was definitely built before Week 48 so we are just having to wait for the next software release which is compatible with our car.

I filed up the Motor Ombudsman claim as this is being ongoing for almost year without any joy to fix it. I can't use any online paid service as this will stopped working after 🆘 errors appear. The navigation is running always behind so not usable at all. On top off it when using handsfree in car and SOS appear can't hear the voice properly so all in one car usable just for driving nothing else 🙄

Best thing to do put car in incognito mode and use either android auto or apple car play then don’t get any sos or sat nav problems when using google maps or apple maps

I just had 1896 installed today too. On my journey home, no pops heard when that same route I normally hear it once.
Its resolved my other issues of losing infosystem settings after car has turned off/on. Things like interior backlight settings are now remember.
I need to play around with it over the weekend to see what and if other improvements there are and also if the popping and sos has been resolved. This will probably need a few weeks of driving for me to be totally convinced its fixed but dealer did say they are aware and they are waiting for a permanent fix from VW group.

I don't know how others feel about this but waiting one year for fix with 16XX version is honestly too long!

Update over the last posting I made on the 12th March. Some far I've not seen the problem reappear. No popping from the centre speaker. No car sos error either. I've driven 63 miles in some very remote places in the south around the m25 and when there is no data reception it does not invoke the issue. I've driven on some roads where I know evetytine without fail the centre speaker would pop and now it does not. There is one particular street 200 yards from my home where the speaker would always pop at the exact same moment I went along it and no pop anymore. I think from my perspective it seems to me resolved.

Same here, no issues so far. The car however has since developed another fault which is probably unrelated to the software but its back in next week to check out why it wont drive in e-mode only.

Hard to believe but true!
She finally arrived ...
The new baseline for all SOP1s!
What does that mean?
All Leon and Formentor PKW specific to the EU Market *1 with the MIB3OI Software 1672 (as well as 1664, 1668) will now receive the holy 1896 incl. many more updates to come !
😉

*1 affected vehicle numbers:
LEON (KL)
VSS ZZZ KL Z LR 000334 to
VSS ZZZ KL Z LR 014785
FORMENTOR (KM)
VSS ZZZ KM Z MR 000226 to
VSS ZZZ KM Z MR 007184
For example, the OCU3, the BCM, the Gateway is being updated here... You shouldn't have any mistakes with the gray world ball/offline status (tested by me for over three quarters of a year and it's true).
Further, the reverse camera and the external sound system of the amplifier respectively will be updated. So that the well-known pink or black reverse camera pictures and the cracking noises from the speakers will be fixed.
The whole action will take 3.5 hours and you won't recognize your car, without your old everyday mistakes
😉

TPI: 2066692/1
Seat/Cupra talks about over 2,000 fixed bug/defect tickets. (The boys had enough time
😉
)
But the best will be the miserable topic: Wireless Carplay/Android Auto as well as ORU (Updates and Maps via OTA) and the Connect-App works like with other vehicles!

Gooosh finally!! Let's know annoy all the dealers to book all 16XX car in the garage.

Good luck. I can happily say I’ve had no issues since the upgrade. My other issue with not staying in e-mode was because the m new software did a reset of all the settings that’s all and the dealer shown me how to set up correctly, so this one is a user error 😅

My 1672 is currently in with SEAT for a number of issues, including the SOS - wonder if they mention this to me when I phone up later for an update? Hopefully this will fix things.

I can't think I've misinterpreted anything but perhaps I have.

I noticed a red dot top right of the screen. I pressed the dot which revealed a software update is available. Selecting the 'i' informed me it can't be completed with the engine running. When I got home I went through the sequence again with engine off and it would allow me to start the upgrade. Not done it yet though as I wanted to check here before doing it.

Just wondering if the people who are going to the dealership for their's are updating something different? If the same why are they not being offered to update at home 🤔

Our infotainment is running two separate software. For better imagination, you can call 16XX software as the operating system and software updates via red dot or infotainment is an application running the infotainment. The operating system could be only updated by garage.
