Shocks for mk2 toledo 1.9tdi

right, i'm pretty sure my shocks are on the way out, the car feels more rolly than i remember and just not as sharp in general. its 7 years old, so i'm guessing they haven't done too badly

now i know the toledo has a pretty soft setup, so going for oem parts probably wont help a great deal, and id like to improve it if possible, without spending big style money...yeah i know, i'm asking alot!

i found these replacement shocks on ebay, just an idea, they claim to be a tadge harder, and don't seem very expensive, however i fear the quality may not be as good as oem units? i cant afford a coilover setup, nor can i justify it, just want the car to handle the bumps of the country lanes i live along a tad better.

will i need new springs too? do they lose their bounce?

before anybody suggests, my insurance company wont cover mods, so lowering and all that stuff, as nice as it would be, is out of the question, i cant afford to risk invalidating it *awaits people to say 'meehhh you will be fine'*

anway, if i got those ebay units, id be spraying them black, so its as unobvious as possible that i have changed anything! (i also like my car looking standard) i've also been considering new bushes at the same time (whilst i'm there), which im sure would help the handling alot, presumably nobody has any complaints against powerflexs? they seem a very popular choice among the forums i've been browsing

any help is much appreciated :)

Hi there,

I'm in the same boat with bushes. I need front ARB Bushes, but there are 2 sizes available and not sure which I have or need to get.

Anyway, Suspension. I replaced my rear shocks 7 months ago and have been in the Spainish mountains for the last 5 of those months. I have got front ones, but yet to fit them. I opted for SPAX as these got good write ups and didn't seem to expensive. They are yellow, but you hardly notice them unless you are really looking under the arch. It cost me £340 for all 4, but these are the adjustable ones. The standard ones are cheaper at approx. £140 including delivery. I got mine from here http://www.europerformance.co.uk/suspension/spax_suspension/SPAX_Suspension.mhtml

You shouldn't need new springs, but I wouldn't have thought they cost the earth as standard replacements.

http://www.vwspares.co.uk/ Is also worth considering, although these will be fairly standard shocks, but they will be cheap.

Hope this helps.
