The tool for spreading the casting out is available via Halfords - its a Laser Tools tool - will need to be ordered in from Laser - and Halfords are agents for them, well worth buying as any other "thing" you try to use will just get you very annoyed!
Maybe slacken off the nyloc nut on the top end of the strut before doing anything else, and tighten the new nut last. Use a sparkplug socket with a hex head for this and hold the top of the strut with a long hex bit through the socket.
If you have not removed springs from a car with tapered springs be prepared to be annoyed as it canb be quite difficult to get hold of suitable spring compressors and compress the tapered springs - the nasty little buggars!
BTW, "10" is a M14 spine headed bolt - most kits stop at M12!!!

I'd give (6) cap a miss unless your car had none from new, might want to consider changing the bolt and nut that clamps the strut to the hub (10) and (11) - also remember that you will need 3-off (7) for each side. And, if you are not lucky, you will need to follow the correct workshop method and remove the drive shaft on one side - think its the O/S and the lower swivel fixing bolts (replace as well as plate with nuts. The drive shaft nut is another "use once" item - as will become obvious whe you take it off and it needs a deep large socket. Maybe have a look on www.briskoda.net for the size as I posted its size in there. Doing this job on a 5 year old Polo really had me a bit grumpy due to rusted bits and very hard nyloc elements - enjoy!
If in doubt, get hold of a Fabia or Polo 9N Haynes manual as all this is covered in there.

Not much - whatever that ends up being, I'd reckon that (5) is just a precationary buy - I didn't buy or change the top mount in the Polo.
ok well ill call up the stealers tomorrow and ask how much it is for those parts as they never called me back today, useless f**ks!

I managed to change my front suspension without removing the drive shaft. And I used a suitably sized allen key bit for a screwdriver as a hub spreading tool, did the job fine.
The part numbers should be the ones that the dealers have, but you can never be 100% sure. I always go to the dealers to make absolutely sure they are looking at the right pictures and parts. Its much easier than trying to explain over the phone, so if you can find the time to get to a dealer, its well worth the effort. Just today I went to the dealer to order the tweeter housings for the rear doors and that was difficult enough. The part numbers I got from vagcat matched up tho so all was well.

Im currently in Reading, the car stuck in Surrey and grateful my dad is picking up the springs from ECP and putting them in the car and will move it to my friends garage (carefully!) until he has time to fix it.
I am now planning on calling the dealer for a long convo about this diagram and how much these extra little bits would cost. Luckily enough if I am and they are in stock, the garage is 2 ticks from my parents house so could potentially get my dad (again!) to get them for me and put them with the springs.
Oh its great organising these things when im not there to take action!

Remember its 2 X 3 of (7) that you will need - if any of these numbers have been superceded then the dealer will ignore what you ask for and give you the parts using their "newer" part numbers. The list could go on, but that is a good starting point, especially if the dealer is close by to your dad (that is always something!).
