Seat Leon 1.6 16v Induction/air filter

Hello i know theirs 1001 threads about this, but wanted to add my own personaised touch to it, and get some help personally.

After doing alot of research I have decided to go for a Pipercross/green airfilter (any opinion on which is better)

Now im unsure weather this is the best idea...an induction kit seems pointless in comparison? unless someone can sway me otherwise?

As for the original airbox, Alot of people seem to of drilled theirs..good idea? or bad idea? and id probs smooth it too.

Would it necessarily need a cold air induction? or will it be great without it?

I plan to post a progress thread up soon, as i have alot planned for the car, just wanted some opinion on the first stage

Thanks

With an NA car, make sure the air it gets has the lowest possible temperature. Swap the panel filter for an uprated one (Pipercross/K&N/Green/etc) or use a cone filter in a housing, like the Pipercross Viper/Venom or BMC CDA. In the latter case, make sure the cold air feed gets fresh air properly

Gl!

Hello thanks for the reply

Thats the problem i cant decide whether it will be better to have a full induction kit (i would probs go for BMC CDA) or a Pipercross/K&N/green panel filter.

If i opted for the panel filter, id most likey smooth the airbox and drill some holes for the noise, may look into widening the air feed going into the airbox too.

Thanks

I would go for panel filter and keep it like it is. Spend your money on upgraded full exhaust system (exhaust header, sportscat, catback). Drilling will give you more warm air which is bad and will lower performance.

NA cars are more prone to reduced performance from sucking in warmer air. Turbo cars have an intercooler to cool the charged air, air passing the turbo will be superheated anyways.

Okay mate,

Seems i will opt for a pipercross or a green filter, and you sudgest leaving everything as it is and just poping that in?

As for an exaust i plan to get a catback system, just finding somewhere that does it for the 1.6 is easier said than done!

Thanks

Yes, too bad the gains on a naturally aspirated car are lower than a turbo driven car.

If you cant find a set, might as well go to custom exhaust builder?

For inspiration, my old Renault Megane Coupe 1.6e. Check the airduct rerouted in my front bumper. Biggest gain was Supersprint 4-2-1 header.

-4-2-1 Supersprint heatwrapped header (before: 4-1)
-Cat replacement
-Freeflow muffler
-Pipercross Viper

Looks nice mate!

I looked at the pipercross viper...but it appears they only sell one for the 8v not the 16 >.<!

im still swaying between the two, (induction vs Panel filter) sure the panel filter is cheaper, but i dont wanna get it and think..i wished i got an induction kit haha!

Mind running through any key differences id notice between the two? if any?

reguarding the -4-2-1 header, will i have to buy these serpately or are they included in most catback systems?

Thanks

Induction gave me more sound and a bit more performance, but it costs more than twice the panel filter. Also the stock filterbox from the Megane was from from optimal in my opinion. Pipercross Viper/Venom are universal filters and should be big enough to provide a 1.6 NA engine with enough fresh air.

Headers are sold seperate, but they are pricey. I was lucky to buy one second hand in good condition (€150). Pickup at lower revs are improved, exhaust sound will also be improved, sounds beefier.

Its a tough call, the panel filters sure are easier and cheaper haha!

do you recommend the pipercross induction kits over BMC CDA ect?

sorry for all these questions >.<!

ahh, nice, well thats something i will have to look into once i have my cat back system!

know any good makes for headers and exhausts for the leons?

ive tried emailing milltek, which told me they dont sell for the 1.6, a few others seem to also be the same, getting one custom made might be the only option >.<!

Thanks

Thats what forums are for ;)

I bought the Venom because it was 1/3th the price of a BMC, I refuse to buy a airfilter for +€300. Check Supersprint & Simons?

If you really want bigger gains, save up for a 1.8T.

You dont even wanna see my insurance quote for a 1.8T...its something like 5-7grand :p!

i do want one tho! haha! may have to get a LCR for my 3rd car :p! once i have a few more years no claims

alot cheaper, it seems, are the vipers good? and do they come with everything needed? i suppose as long as its connected corectly and the Cold air feed is where it needs to be everything will be fine..as long as i dont go through any swamps or deep puddles :p

I will take a look at those websites,

i really need to start a build progress thread, got so much i want to do! haha

Thanks

So to confirm, you think i should buy this..

i cant post links so just add ebay.co. ect at the begining

But thats the 8v version, so confused here :p!

it seems also the BMC CDAs are the same price now tho.

Thanks

There exists only 1 version of the Viper (universal filter as far as i know). If you dont care about the carbon, check the Pipercross Venom, saves you a bit of money as well. They should be identical in buildup, only to differ in housing.

Good luck with your choice ;)

AHH! haha :p!

will carbon be much better? i was literally almost ready to buy that :p! haha!

tbh i just want something that works, and i wont have to worry about.

As long as it fits, does the job and doesnt cause me any trouble ill be a happy bunny!

:p!

I am looking that up now!

And as far as im aware yes it does, only know this from people telling old wives tales about how their Maf sensor was destroyed by a panel filter ect haha
