haha yeah i read that a while ago!

Im still so undecisive weather to go panel filter or induction kits

theirs such a mixture of comments online, some saying induction kits will do nothing for the 1.6 and to get a custom panel, others saying the complete opposite haha!

damn it!

Thanks

You dont need to say thanks all the time ;) You can add to my reputation by clicking on the "scale" below my nickname.

I had the same questions and tried quite a lot of filters, so I have some knowledge now :)

Megane Coupe
-Standard paper
-K&N replacement panel filter
-Raid HP foam
-Pipercross Venom

Seat Leon
-Stock paper filter
-Open cone filter
-Pipercross panel filter (just swapped)

1.6 doesn't have a maf sensor it has a map sensor. Measures pressure only. (Manifold Absolute Pressure). Where as maf is (Mass Air Flow).

Won't affect the situation. Thought I would just inform :) I know a lot of people don't like using oily filters as they can mess up thr maf. Don't know if its the same situation with map sensor :-\ imho if your looking for bhp gain you won't get much with changing induction on a 1.6. But the airbox design is sh*t on the 1.6 16v engine. Plus make things bit trickier with the vertical throttle body! o_O

did you finally make your choice on this panel or induction kit as i am in the same boat as yourself just now cant make my mind up which one to go for.

Agree the air box/ engine cover are really bad on these engines.

Many thanks

Hey Buddy,

I completely forgot about this forum post,
My leon was written off (thanks to someone crashing into the back of it!) oh how I miss her.

In all honesty if you have the money go for the induction kit, as long as you get a decent cold air feed, Although a panel is alot easier, it wont yield anywhere near the results...

But as I have been advised on many occasions, the 1.6 engine isn't the most tunable, so gains aren't great, Honestly this is all a preference of how you want your car to sound not how you would like it to perform.

(I know this hasn't been much of a helpful post, but if you want any gains, id go for a cat back exaust, and an induction kit, with a remap if you feel like splashing some cash) That will yeild some niceish gains..

your other option is removing all the grooves from the airbox to increase airflow and using a panel filter..End of the day...What are you looking for with this modification?

Thanks for getting back to me on this. Sorry to here your car had been written off.

I am really looking at the take off side of things given i have changed my golf tdi for this i should have done my home work and gone for a cupra if the truth be known as that way i would not need to mod mine. I do have the option to sell it on and make a little money on it as it is in very good condition for the year. The more i read about the 1.6 the less impressed i am given the tdi i had.

I did think about what you said ie induction kit and cat back exhaust and then a remap but not sure i want to spend out close to £800 when i could sell mine and put that £800 to a turbo version.

I hated it when people said..just buy the 1.8T haha!

But in all honesty as ive realised (i now have the 1.8T engine) It has so much more potential.
Going from a turbo car to a non turbo car must be horrible!

What you have to think of tho, coming from a tdi to the 1.6 and then the 1.8t...its not the greatest on fuel, especially if your used to the 1.6.

Ultimately its up to you, theirs tiny things you could do to the 1.6 to improve its responsiveness. will it compare to the torque of the tdi? probs not. but the leon is a lovely car, regardless of speed!

i dont hate it i should have doen my home work and bought a 1.8t its my own fault but i was that fed up with people not giving me answers on my golf that i decided to buy a new car its lovely just lacks the speed for what i was used to. Guess i will just have to get used to it for a while and then maybe think about upgrade next year.

Paint racing stripes down her...That always increases speed!

on a more serious note, may be an idea, you may grow to love the leon by then tho.
If you do make any modifications to it, give me an update on here, id be quite interested to see how it pans out/what you end up doing!

hope it all goes well for you mate!

I have just ordered a viper kit for it so we will see how that goes and then an exhaust me thinks but will wait and see what the viper kit does first but I will keep you updated on this thread pal.

There isnt much gani to be had, a good enclosed filter is a wise choice. Other options are exhaust header and sportscat (will regain some lost power). Remapping is an option, but it wont give you the big gains as can be obtained with turbo car. It can change driveability though.

I wouldnt spend to much in tuning a NA car like the 1.6, might save up for ....wait for it.... 1.8t ;)
