Samco Upper Intercooler hose keeps popping off - any ideas?

Right,  here....

I have a 4 piece samco boost hose kit. 2 hoses go to the DV, 1 is an upper intercooler hose and 1 is a short pipe for the lower intercooler hose.

I'm assuming that the FMIC kit does NOT replace the DV hoses, so I'd keep those. The upper intercooler hose I have is for my DV relocation kit, so that would all be sold on.

The lower intercooler hose that I havent fitted - you say that Forge FMIC kit comes with one of these as well? So the flat pipe you talk about would be replaced with the kit?

Well a final update (i think) :)

Removed DV relocation kit - WOW. What a difference! So much better without it!
The car now sounds more throaty again, and the dumping noise isnt as "high pitched" as it was with the relocation kit on. The dump also sounds stronger, and my CAI sounds better :)

I've removed the whole kit, and put the STD upper intercooler pipe back on. The boost leak SEEMS to have gone completely now! The car is running as awesomely as before, and i am now MUCH happier! :D

Onwards and upwards - and onto the FMIC :)

Absolutely LOVING my car at the moment - drive back home was nothing but grin factor! :D:D:D

Car feels more responsive, had none of the "chatter" dv oscillation at the usual points in the road I know I suffer with (due to speed, acceleration etc - not the road itself) and it sounds much better too :)

This is the problem i have been having with my Samcos that i got on Saturday! The longest one that runs from the manifold to the intercooler just doesnt seem to be long enough or have enough flex in it to stay on

Then just use the OE one? Having a silicon hose there is purely cosmetic as the standard part is more than up to the job.

There's less bulging in the silicons though? Some people do seem to have experienced better throttle response and slightly less lag.

really.

i changed mine on my old Leon and didn't notice a thing. When you spend £100+ on some rubber hoses i think you want to notice a differance for you money. Doesn't mean that differance is significant or even due to the hose. Maybe it was just colder that day! ;)

Maybe...

I guess it depends on the age of them too... If the car's done 50k+ it make make more of a difference?

I've got an 85k Audi A3 still on it's original intercooler hose. Whipped it off the other day to clean the throttle body and the hose looks in perfect condition.

I'm not saying Samco hoses aren't better than OE. But on their own i don't think they make much differance compared to a good condition OE one (except the TIP). For the price of them you can change parts that will make a significant differance.

But if you're running big boost, modded everything else and still have money to burn then go for it!

Fair point.

Out of interest and a little off topic - what exactly is involved in a TB clean and how easy is it to do (on an LCR that is).

Never done it on an LCR but i imagine it'd be very similar to my A3...

The throttle body is attached to inlet manifold by 4 bolts (IIRC you'll need a 5mm allen key). Take of the intercooler hose and undo these bolts.

There are a whole bunch of wires and vacuum hoses attached to the sides of the throttle body, i left these in place and carefully moved it away from the manifold. There is a paper gasket between the TB and mani, try not to damage it.

Basically, all you can see in the TB is a hollow tube with a butterfly valve, mine had a fine coating of dirt and oil over both. I used a cloth and some carb cleaner to carefully remove the crap.

Refit the TB, check all the hoses and wires are still securely connected then perform a TB alignment.

Cheers! Will have a look this weekend ;) Carb cleaner from Helfrauds I assume?

On the leon there's a ridge around the charge pipe that your supposed to push the pipe up to. You can push it over this and put a jubilee clip on so it pulls on the clip instead of the pipe.

The other upper intercooler hose on the leon R gets very hot/soft and has been seen to balloon out on RR days.
If yours are in good condition i wouldnt worry about it. I think songman still runs with originals on an IHI.
