Another update
Rear of car stripped for an idea on where to locate battery to
Once stripped lots of room filled by polystrene blocks

So added prototype box but so big it would never fit, i tried lots of things
29102010072.jpg

So now thinking this is probably the best place now as i want to keep my spare due to puncture issues in the past

I think i will trim the carpet to accommodate the box
The new box has all welded joins instead of angle and has been polished and lacquered for show

Ah, I see. Awesome!

Should look the business then!

As you're going for show, I think I've got a battery post mounted digital volt gauge floating around the house somewhere. It's chrome finish and the display is in blue.

Battery box now made
I used some scrap from work and cut to size of the OE battery and tacked it together and let our work welder do his magic, so one box

Tig welding does look good, then used some angle to construct a frame for a lid and welded. Just popped the battery in to make sure it definately fit
26012011098.jpg

Following that i sanded down the welds, put it through a media blast to remove impurities and ran over the whole box with some 300 grit on an orbital. To keep it looking nice i then lacquered it.
Found a piece of polycarb to fill the lid frame and stop bits dropping in and also to insulate the frame (aliminium likes electric), leaving me this

I then glued a strip of rubber to the front cable entry slit to stop any chaffing or rubbing through

Pic of cable route to terminals

To fix the lid down i used 4 stainless button heads tapped into the frame and added 2 bolts tapped through the top to put pressure on the battery stopping it moving in the little clearance it has in the box and viola

Finished box, i have also made some brackets and glued them to the frame to Tegscrew it to the floorpan of the car in the boot.
Now just need to acquire some battery terminals and i am thinking of adding a kill switch too

No worries mate, thinking i might try and get a small R motif etched onto the top of the polycarb as it is a fair old size viewing window
Got to get an isolator now and choose a location for it, probably bracketed off box but will need an enclosure round the terminals
More thinking unless anyone has any good ideas?

Its taken a fair old time to make this box but i would recommend building one instead of buying some of the ropey cages that are sold

Allows more room for cold air to the air filter. and helps weight distribution too.

Battery relocation will slightly aid weight distribution and allow room for huge green filter i have my eye on
Once its relocated and rear strut brace added i have a few bushes to change to poly then its off for corner weighting
