Cupra has a bigger turbo and a Seat Sport FMIC, slightly different map - that's where the 30bhp and 14 lb/ft come from.

Cupra TDI is safe for 190bhp - 200bhp and torque will top out at 300 lb/ft - same as PD130.

and its that magic 300 lb/ft that will test the limits of your clutch from my experience

Mine was fine sitting at 298 lb/ft for 25k miles! And apparently its now on 60k so its been fine for 60k on a remap!

I've also had my car remapped by paul at Angel Tuning.

I asked him for an estamite on bhp etc and He said due to the number of times hes done this remap to the 130 that it will be between 187-190 bhp and 310-315 lbs.

To be fair that's far too high for a safe remap, its not all about the high figures anyway, its the way its delivered!

Sounds like they just pluck a figure out of there head, are Angel tuning a well regarded VAG tuner?

I read something in What Diesel Car last week about FR TDis and it recommended you go no higher than 295lb ft of torque and 185BHP before you have to made modifications to the car to handle it, like the FMIC. But I'm just taking that from a magazine, I know nothing about this sort of stuff really.

Was it a guy from Troon who did your remap? A manager at my work had his Passat 130 done by him a few years back, it was far too aggressive and killed his clutch. He took it back and had it adjusted though and didn't have any bother after that. I'm currently swithering over whether to get a remap or not. It's not helped by a bloke at work telling me he's phoned the Angel Tuning guy from Troon to get his Citroen done. :p

Yeh it is the guy from troon, and to be honest the car feels fine ive drove mine for a few thousand miles, i dont really put the foot down before 2000 rpm, but the car is fine, do you know what sota hot hatches it will now compete with with the performance?

I remapped mine at AmD a few weeks ago. The before roll was at around 155bhp, which I found a bit strange.

After the remap it rolled at 172bhp with 293lb/ft. The torque is a bit high for my taste, will it give me problems? I hope not, I wasn't planning on changing my clutch for another 25.000 miles at least. :)

I keep hearing the most varied things about it, some people say it's a safe remap up to 185bhp, some say not to go beyond 170bhp, but almost everybody agrees not to take the torque over 295...
If I can be honest, BIGG, I think 187bhp is a bit too much if you plan to leave everything else as it came out of the factory. If I were you I'd go for a bigger IC and a clutch before yours gets blown to smithereens.

The thing is tho m8 Angel Tuning is very reputable, and paul does a lot of remapping of the pd units mostly 130's. He is firstly an alfa romeo specialist but all i hear is good comments and he assured me my map would be fine and any problems and i was to tell him. My work colleague has an alfa romeo and knows him very well so i wouldnt think hes talking bullshit as hes been doing ot for many years. And it doesnt feel strained. It holds its revs far better and has more push into the back of your seat feeling.

Thats sounds about right MargheD, no offence BIGG (its not a personal dig) but i have never heard of Angel tuning until you mentioned them.

If massive tuning companies like Revo who spend millions on development say a safe map is 195 for my cupra i'm happy knowing my map is safe for all round use and not over straining other components, ie turbo, clutch etc and will last for years to come.

The reason i used AMD for my map was because i could watch whilst they ran it on the rollers, remapped it, ran it again then took me for a test drive.

^ I went to AmD because they are VAG specialists, so I thought "They must have spent some time now developing this remap for the FR!" since it seems it is the Ibiza that gets remapped the most. Even their "standard", not custom remap must be the result of years of remapping on Ibizas, so why not trust them?

I did specifically ask if 172bhp and 293 torque are going to give me problems with the clutch, and they said to sleep my peaceful nights and not to worry. I want to trust them, if only for their experience with VAG cars.

The AMD map is good, i went for Revo due to the 20% discount thats all. AMD certainly know there stuff ;)

Mine hit 148BHP on the rollers last February and that's bog standard. CHR15B from here put his TDi Sport 130 on as well and it only came out with 143BHP. I think the temperature has a lot to do with it as well? It was a freezing cold day outside the unit where the cars were RR'd that day.

BIGG - what sort of price did the Angel Tuning guy charge? My workmate's gutted he swapped his Alfa GT Coupe for the Citroen, as he could have had 190BHP from it at Angel Tuning. :cartman:
