So now my turbo has been replaced I am considering a remap for my pd140 ref sport. I live in Kent, near Maidstone.

Can anyone recommend a place to get this done. Jf automotive is my closest and is owned by a friend of a friend.

I have never had a car mapped before, and my main concern is placing extra stress on the turbo as they are referred to as chocolate turbos on the bkd engine.

I have little knowledge on the subject, and I understand it can be mapped with or without rolling road. Ideally I would like to know before and after results so can anyone explain the pros amd cons of each type of map and any experience they have with maps on my engine.

Also what cost should I expect for each?

In all honesty I am looking at an economy map for maximum mpg with the added bonus of extra power and torque. (Plus i thought it would help prolong turbo life compared to a performance map)

Comments please!

The PD140 is easy to map as it uses the Bosch ECU and Injectors.

Jamie wont touch the PD140

pd140 bkd engine is great to remap. great gains and good delivery.

you'll get a lot of companies telling you that they can give you this and that, best of both blah blah blah. chances are they are flashing a cheap, nasty file they've paid very little for with no r&d.

i've flashed loads with revo stage 1 software, they go great. Recently i flashed my own golf with stage 2 software and it absolutely flies! i also recorded the highest mpg i've ever managed on a run a couple of weeks ago at 73.1! before i'd only ever managed around 55. so with decent software there is a bit of give and take, you have to drive like a saint though.

on another note i also managed 120 in 5th (dsg) on a private road in manual mode. Never managed anything close to that on the standard file.

I've had a JF auto remap, and from my friends experiences I'm lucky I got rid of it asap.

Like you mentioned I wouldn't get a map anywhere that doesn't have a rolling road.

I have used & had good experiences with a Tunit (tuning box) on many cars. (Most of them fleet or company cars).

I'd advise if your after serious performance travel and go to the people who know VWAG Diesel, or settle for tuning box (I only say Tunit because they offer sound warranties & when speaking to the technical manager it's very apparent he knows his stuff.

£250+ for a remap on rolling road

£300+/- for a Tunit box

I'm assuming when you say you had a jf automotive map, you didnt actually have any probs but removed it anyway, however you had a friend that did? what were the probs?

Also did you just have it flashed or was it put on the rolling road as they do have one.

I thought tuning boxes were a big no no in the tuning world as they only trick the ecu into thinking something else is happening makong it deliver more fuel or similar.

You mention revo stage 1, as mentioned I have very little knowledge, but im assuming they designed the map. If so when approaching any tuners what sort of questions should I be asking to make sure they know there stuff and have good maps?

Haha just seen a thread on Facebook basically a guy asking about tuning a PD140..

Some random lad comes on and says him or "his" company offer custom tuning.. few questions later it turns out he rocks up in a van, flashes a file and takes the money. When I asked what was custom about it he couldnt really answer...

People will believe anything these days.

I see and hear about car park tuners all the time. My best friends cousin does it for a (very good) living! Flashes cars for quite a few tuning companies too.

Revo - the gains are impressive ~+45hp and the car will be so much more pleasurable to drive.

Does anyone have any views on the pros and cons of economy and performance maps.

Also the likely effect on other components especially my new turbo
