well this has made my morning!
when did everyone get so self righteous?

I seem to remember a a member (that may have got through an engine or two) who frequently boasted about silly speeds & problems with boost at 150mph +, & all he got was praise ;)

I think you all have scared him off

The reactions to these threads make me laugh

First off:

1) Do we all own fast cars? - Yes (most of us anyway).
2) Do we drive them like grannys? - No, and if you say yes your lying.
3) Haven't we all had a bit of a hoot in our 'fast cars' at some point? - Yes, otherwise your wasting it.

We've all had our moments in our cars, and whilst it may not be big or clever it's a rush, and speed is why you bought a fast car. As long as it's not in a 30/40 mph area with schools a plenty, I think your all being a bit 'holier than thou' about this.

I refuse to believe any of you only drive in a 'spirited' fashion on track days, and as for baiting the police? Is that what the guy said? No. I think he was just suggesting that on this occasion he was lucky.

I love the way folk jump on he bandwagon when this kind of story pops up. Victor Meldrew would be proud ;)

i my self have often had "spririted drives" but nothing where a police officer has put the blues and twos on...
I think it was kinda wreckless, but then equally. as we were not there, we cant fully assess how it was that he got away.
may not have involved any wreckless driving...

One thing i have learnt though, is keep it on the track.

I like having a clean licence. I also don't like the idea of having to spend half my time watching my rear view mirror for blue lights anytime I want to drive quickly.

I have spirited drives in the UK, but mostly on country roads, where I wont be exceeding 50mph a lot of the time, but still having a lot of fun.

Autobahns + nurburgring in germany are where I stretch my car's legs, as there i can do it, and concentrate on going fast, without worrying about gatsos, plod and stupid idiots in subaru imprezzas trying to race me.

Fair enough :)

No more than 50 mph a lot of the time? But more at some point?

So driving at 80 mph in a straight line on a dual carrageway is more dangerous than on a narrow country lane hitting 50 around a sweeping corner with hedgerows on either side?

I have to admit i am very surprised at the harsh and hypocritical response The Machine has got to his post. Yes it`s not big or hard but there are posts about somebody racing another member or a different brand/model of car all the time. There is even a thread going on at the moment where a member wants to know why his modded car does not pull like he thinks he should above 120 mph but nobody had a problem with that.http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=92805
If i could be assed to do a search i would probably find hundreds this year without the said person getting such a harsh response so what makes this post so different?
I can honestly say i do not "bait" other drivers and am surprised people get away with it since there are far to many traffic pigs down this way to do such a thing regularly but i do admit i drive my car hard regularly but then i start work at 3.30 am so there are very few if anyone around. Anyone who mods their car power wise and says they do not drive there car hard is lying!
This type of thing happens and yes i am surprised people boost about it on an open forum which is a stupid thing to do but he is not the first and will not be the last to do so.

no more than 50, means any speed between 0 and 50mph. I said no more than 50, to illustrate that high speeds were not being used.

Round a blind corner, I would not be going more than maybe 5-10mph depending on the corner.

I'm sure thats the only place you do it too ;)

Think what you want, I really don't care. :d

Well all I can say is it shows the quality of police driving has gone downhill if they can’t even catch a LCR, which everyone knows isn’t the fastest car on the road, because that’s a remapped Leon diesel. :cartman:

i work with a guy who has a motorbike, he dawdles into work most mornings and i usually catch up with him and i've only been doing a steady 60mph, however when he see's me in his rear view mirror he wants to race me. not being stupid i usually don't bite, but one morning (6am) i decided to take up the challenge ! his bike is an ordinary nothing special 600cc honda something or other, but lets make this perfectly clear, he kicked my ass big time. i really can't understand this "had a play with a bike today" business. unless the bike is a moped, vespa, lambretta or a lawnmower there's no way on gods green earth that we're keeping up with a bike on an lcr, and if we are, then the bikes not trying. going home from work last week i had a little tit behind me in a 206 gti trying to race me, i was overtaking a few cars and then he was doing the same but he was making it and no more, i seriously thought he was going to kill himself or someone else , now he probably tells his mates on some peugout forum that he raced a cupra r and kept up with it when the truth was that i couldn't be arsed and was just trying to get away from him. its not clever to race away from the police but i'm sure other people have had the same experience, that said you maybe shouldn't boast about it on a forum. :headhurt:

I think many of those who praised him have gone now and either generally grown up or discovered that this is not really the place to talk about it. Then again alot of people thought the member in question wasn't quite so clever to begin with.

Admittedly I've discovered my car handles quite well at 120mph, but that was on Prodrives track in a safe, controlled environment with nothing coming the other way or any police around. Personally, I don't have a problem with speed in itself, but as with most things in life there are appropriate times and places to be using it, sadly racing or "playing" with someone on a public road isn't one of those times.

I had a cup of Alta Rica coffee and an iced fondant fancy for breakfast today, think it was a yellow one iirc.
(change the fooking topic, most of us have had a blast in the car, I dont care to mention some of the hairier moments unless it was all above board)

I've yet to have my breakfast... but it will obviously be done at extreme speed with total disregard for the law and any other persons present.
