I'd have to agree with robdon that an oil pressure gauge is much more important than oil temp when it comes to letting you know of any problems, factory oil pressure lights only activate when it is too late and the oil temp will stay up for a long time even if the oil pump has stopped working.

(just think of the temp of water in a kettle with the element on it will rise to 100 degrees but then the element shuts off and it will take a long time will i for the temp of that water to drop back down. And oil is a lot thicker than water so it will hold the heat longer.)

I've heard of two 20v turbo lumps with deffective oil pumps one in a golf and the other in an a3 so it is something i'd want to watch

JRB...Oil temp decreases fairly quickly if you hold off. My reasoning is, you wont know when to hold off if you dont have a gauge. You dont really know when to put the foot down 'safely' if you dont have a gauge also

I had a 3 and a half hour journey upto scotland on thursday! 90mph all the way and the gauge was at a constant reading of 130c. A 20sec blip of the throttle upto xxx mph and the gauge was reading 150c. A sustained xxx mph run and god knows what the temp would have been!

Ive been saying it for a while now, chipped LCR's are getting oil temperature to an unsafe level! Its not just mine, there is 1 other LCR i know of with a temp gauge and the same readings!

Never heard of an oil pressure fault though.

thats it settled for me im only wanting two gauges and its going to be boost and oil temp as you need to know when you can put your foot down plus on the dash it will tell you if the cars to hot anyhow!!

Mitchy...... I appreciate that your oil temp is getting way up there and if nomad did a 3 pillar pod that would of been my third choice. Its a bit pants that a car like ours doesn't come standerd with an oil temp gauge my last car did and that was only a saxo!!

Where have you mounted your oil temp probe because if it is not in the oil flow it will give innacurate readings?

Just to add my 2 pence worth

I would have liked Oil Temp because many of my journeys were quite short say 20mins.....now I know not to give the car any beans till the oil is up to temp....engine coolant is up to temp after say 5mins but I hear it's more like 9-12mins of normal running for oil to get to temp.....I used to set the computer on the dash to show duration of journey and guess 10mins ish was OK ....I would have liked an Oil Temp gauge for this reason....

Rudd's not got an LCR anymore mate.

Yes the oil temp sender screws into the blanking plug of the oil filter housing

to remove the blanking plug on the ibiza (alot less space) i found it easiest to remove the inlet manifold. for the time and hassle it saves, its not a big job to do. the extra space you get and access to the blanking plug is priceless!!
