You know it will be shameful.
Already started eying the swirl marks on her. I must admit, the paintwork condition is excellent and the swirls are very very light. Really chuffed as I fear the worse.

Nah - you do it like this :- click here
It crossed my mind as I am fully aware of how BMW paint there cars. I don't think I will be wetsanding mine as its the lacquer seems flatter than some I have worked on.

Holey shamoley someone wet sanded a whole car, WOW!!
Dont think i will be doing that, forget 35hours, I would need at least 60hours +.

I dont know where to begin...
Wheres the facepalm smiley at?

If I only had seen the thread in the for sales section earlier, I seriously would have considered bying the whole car from you, and not letting it be chopped up in pieces and left at some dealer.

You see the thing is, that a halfway shabby top sport with 100k miles+ on it would easily go for 12k£ up here..
This means getting yours for ~7500£ instantly sounds like a bargain, until taxes are added. I dont know if the leon was legally registrated with 240bhp, or how it works down there, but if this where the case, it would have been way to expensive. On the other hand, if it was registrated with its original 150bhp, the norwegian import tax would be 7-8k£ish..

The way I see it, I wouldnt have had any doubts buying this car 15K£ total.
Still no facepalm smiley to be found.

But hey, the bmw looks good as well, but, as mentioned earlier, it lacks the possibilty to stand out in a crowd the way the leon did, at least for now. I wouldnt be surprised to see a few modifications in time!

Enough whining from me, still missing an smiley though.. Good luck maz.

Thanks for kind words and it is a shame that I didnt have more time to sell the car (BMW deal was done much quicker than expected). Part of me though is happy as it would have killed me seeing the car on here and the possibility of it being mistreated. Not that you or anyone else would but the thought was always in the back of my mind. No doubt when the car is bought by someone else they will instantly realise its potential as it still drove great even with a few mods taken off. Just goes to show what quality mods can do to a car and I am sure they will come on here to ask...eventually.

I also considered what car I would need to get to get similar feeling to what the mk1 Leons have. Unfortunately the mk1 Leon shape very unique and no other car has had the same impact imo. After the disapointment of insurance quotes for M3 [I thought M3 would be that special car] then the only option I felt was good enough was the 335d. Its special because its got the most powerful/advanced mass production deisel engine in the world and if the mood strikes me I can mod it to my hearts content as its much better setup than the leon. For example, decent intercooler setup [intercooler is bigger than the PD150], 2 turbos which potential to reach silly bhp, great chassis, huge brakes, power going to rear wheels etc...etc...

I think a few of the other bidders had the same inside knowledge as myself in the auction centre today.

I was well prepared for battle though as it's such a superb car. It certanly wasnt an auction bargain but it was a good price for the car in question. It was not far off Maz's price but obviously without a few bits. Over the next few weeks/months I'm hoping to source a few bits to get the car back to it's former glory.

This is my first Seat after 5 Skodas and will replace a e60 530d.

I'll introduce myself properly over the next few days when I get some more time.

Well done getting the car! Now you've got to keep it to a high standard! ;)

Why the downgrade (no offence to Maz) from the E60? Running costs?

I was originally looking for a Fabia VRS to replace the E60, I just like the pd 1.9 engines for there power delivery and simplicity compared to more modern engines but when I saw Maz's car I knew it had to be. The E60 has been a great car but its a totally different machine to this Leon.

I'm sourcing a few bits then I'll hopefully be attending a few track days to enjoy its full potential. On the road, this thing really is amazing. Every modification complements the others and it's clear that a lot of time and thought has been put into the upgrades. Once I get organised I'll start a new thread and keep it updated with the progress.

My Mrs has absolutely flipped her lid with me/the car though but after the effort I put in to get hold of the car it's staying put. As I'm typing this, she has just left for work and said "either you go, or the car goes. Decide today":censored::wtf:

Looks like I'll be moving out then:rolleyes:

God knows. Think she enjoyed driving the BMW which I was going to put up for sale today.

Anyway, any excuse for a drive. I'm off to Asda. I'll win her round with a nice meal.
