Options affecting Leon lead times

Tonight brought a light at the end of the tunnel. After being pushed back to unconfirmed week 6, I had spoken with the dealer and was told his manager wouldn’t allow any temporary car.

He then checked stock and found one of similar spec to mine that has just arrived in the country - 5dr 1.4 TSI 125 FR Technology in Boheme Purple. My order only had one optional extra, a spare wheel, whereas this one has 18” wheels, Convenience Pack and Seat Sound.

It’s going to be a small increase in the monthlies, but it basically the same great deal I had before slightly inflated to account for the extras. I’ve decided to plump for it and am scheduled to collect next Saturday 11th.

A hell of a saga to get to this point, and one I wouldn’t want to repeat any time soon. Hopefully you guys all get some promising outcomes. Has anyone asked their dealers to check stock or cancelled orders? It’s not something I considered but may be worthwhile if anyone isn’t too fussy on exact spec.


For what it’s worth, I agree with the previous poster who felt like they were trapped in a corner because the deals are so good and there is no leverage. That’s certainly the feeling I got from Customer Services, a bit like “Cancel if you want, there’s a queue of customers who will take your order!”

Won’t lie It sounds like SEAT seriously need to up the customer experience when ordering. This is my first new car so not sure if always like this across the industry, but you’d think they’d make more of an event out of it. A bit like ordering a pizza from dominos online...handy status updates and something to check.

When I ordered I didn’t even get a confirmation it had gone through until I asked a few days later. Very odd.

As mentioned above the deals on the Leon’s at the moment are exceptional and as a result worth waiting for. Patience is a virtue, but it seems SEAT/VAG could make their lives so much easier. A little consistent information goes a long way.

It’s not consistent across VAG, I ordered a brand new VW Polo GTI last year (the Leon is for the wife) and VW’s online tracker kept me updated throughout, coupled with helpful call centre staff who’ll even tell you the boat your car is on so you can track the boat online!

Haha I definitely left a comment on one of those saying what a joke it was that SEAT expected people to actually have a car by then!

The snail's pace of the orders. The joke being you have to have the car registered by 31 March for their bonus and there's no way in hell that's going to happen if you order now

I saw SEAT pulled the extra £1000 October offer before the month ended.

Why put in an offer to increase sales, with a deadline date of 31st March, when certain models won't be built by then? Just asking for a customer service disaster and angry/disappointed customers??????

This is from outside UK (Baltics). I ordered a Leon ST 1.4 TSI 150PS Xcellence.

Order date: 26th July 2017
Dealer promised 3-4 months waiting time, but added that prolly 4 is realistic because of factory holidays for the whole month of August.
Non binding build week: Week 47 (can be pushed back or brought forward)

Told dealer about the long waiting time I've read from UK and German forums (recently one 1.4tsi order in Germany was quoted 6+ months waiting time) and dealer said they haven't received any information\complaints from SEAT about long production queues. So as far as they know, there isn't any delays to be expected with the production. I'm skeptical, so we'll see.

I can report that my ST Xcellence 1.4 EcoTSI 150 has been built and has been loaded on to the ship. While I don't know what the latest unconfirmed build week was, then in September (when I asked dealer) it was supposed to be week 47. So it was brought forward. Super happy! Can't wait until I receive it in December.

So after all basically the 4 month lead time I was promised when ordering the Leon has held true.

As someone quite rightly pointed out above, they’ve got a lot of us by the tail.

I got a cracking PCH deal on the Leon, 36 monthly payments of £234, no down payment, 10,000 miles p.a.

I can’t find an A3 or Golf deal that comes close.

Then there’s the fact the dealer has promised a decent part ex figure for my current Leon. However, that goes down by a £100 a month!

That doesn’t excuse SEATs apparent lack of customer care or inconsistency though. It’s just very frustrating that your build week will differ depending on who you talk to.

But there was an issue with the finance (I can thank my flat mate for that - blacklisted the address) and by the time it was resolved the lease company had taken too many orders or something.

I’ve got the FR 1.4 ECOTSI. Cupra is quite a bit more! You’ve still got a good deal. My mate has a mk3 Cupra and it’s awesome. I just couldn’t stomach the cost of fuel driving it around London!

Finally have some news, car is being built week of 13th November so should have it just before Christmas hopefully. Close call as I actually called to cancel the car but before I had said anything he told me it was all moving along finally so decided to go with it.

At £175 a month and £200 deposit, 48 month PCP, I got a cracking deal, only paying £10 more a month than my current Corse E Energy, or should I say my wife's, which I seem to have been left with the keys to, whilst she swans around in my Tig :handbags:

No idea how that worked out, so the Leon will be mine...all mine ;)
