Tonight brought a light at the end of the tunnel. After being pushed back to unconfirmed week 6, I had spoken with the dealer and was told his manager wouldn’t allow any temporary car.
He then checked stock and found one of similar spec to mine that has just arrived in the country - 5dr 1.4 TSI 125 FR Technology in Boheme Purple. My order only had one optional extra, a spare wheel, whereas this one has 18” wheels, Convenience Pack and Seat Sound.
It’s going to be a small increase in the monthlies, but it basically the same great deal I had before slightly inflated to account for the extras. I’ve decided to plump for it and am scheduled to collect next Saturday 11th.
A hell of a saga to get to this point, and one I wouldn’t want to repeat any time soon. Hopefully you guys all get some promising outcomes. Has anyone asked their dealers to check stock or cancelled orders? It’s not something I considered but may be worthwhile if anyone isn’t too fussy on exact spec.
For what it’s worth, I agree with the previous poster who felt like they were trapped in a corner because the deals are so good and there is no leverage. That’s certainly the feeling I got from Customer Services, a bit like “Cancel if you want, there’s a queue of customers who will take your order!”
