Oil pressure.. if your oil pressure suddenly drops it is normally that your pick-up is blocked. This leads to no oil getting to the top of the engine. Un-lubricated hot components will cease, then bang. Engine rebuild time. An oil pressure gauge can give a good indication of any potential issues arising. Also, hot oil gets thin and pressure falls. On trackdays for example, if temps get up to 150* the oil becomes very thin and it can be difficult to maintain decent pressure, hence aftermarket oil coolers.

It measures the oil pressure in the engine, no/low oil pressure means a fooked engine generally.
The Leon as a warning on the dash the oil light will flash and beep if the pressure is too low, ie if the oil pick up pipe is blocked, quite a common problem if people use shite oil :)

Ah i see...cheers peeps. Just ordered one :) Is it like a boost gauge where you need to run a pipe and tap into another pipe for it to read the pressure?

Why didn't you say you wanted one? doh got one here :p

Some are electrical, i wouldn't be running oil to the inside of the car tbh, seeing as the electrical ones are far safer and easier to fit.
Search autogauge on here, should help you out :)

so an oil temp gauge might be better if the car has a oil pressure warning built in..??
a little off topic but what dose the sensor in the bottom of the sump do? some have them and some dont....

Yeah but tbh the oil is hot 10 minutes after the coolant as it hit 90 deg (roughly)
Level sensor, must be temp too as my liquid gauge shows my oil temp.

Pretty sure there's a built in warning for oil temp to mate but if you do get on then oil presure it better ;) more inportent IMO

but then again the tdi dose not suffer the same oil pressure problems as the petrol engines so that makes both of them pretty pointless lol
