Spenny2004 is it a Seat version RNS510 ?
If so just wire up the SAFE pin at the back of the unit on the main multi plug to a constant 12 volt source. This advice was on the main MFD3 threads on the Leon Mk2 forum. Ian.

Yes it is a seat one. thanks for the reply so what happens if I do this does it disable the keycode and does it cause any damage to the unit at all? Could you post a link to the thread you got this info from.

Hi

i did the safe pin thin g and to be honest it sometimes does ask me for the code.. i just reset the unit and its good to go for another few months.

How do you reset the unit,

As last night mine asked me for a code, I made two journeys, then this morning it worked as normal.
Without touching anything.

The Safe connection DOES NOT disable Key Code request. It is a constant 12v feed and it is required for the alarm / memory. Without the Safe connection the unit shouldn't take the Key Code, when you enter the code it should tell you "safe pin not connected".

My car needed a safe pin fitting which was fairly easy. Once fitted correctly you will never have to enter the Key Code again. The car also needs programming via VAG-COM.

My Golf MkV had the Safe connection, the Leon didn't. I just dug a female connector out of an old ISO connector I had lying around and used a ScothBlock to tap in to a permanent 12v+ on the Quadlok connector.

To reset the unit press the two buttons (left and right direction arrows) to the left of the CD/DVD slot and the extreme right hand button (voice symbol) simultaneously and the unit should shut down, I them wait a few seconds and turn it on again with the rotory ON button.
Maybe I too an due a code request but with the safe pin powered it certainly has not happened since I fitted the unit in early August. Ian.

where can I locate a key code, is this printed on the unit anywhere ? or is this in the satnav manual that would have come with the unit?

dave if yours didnt come with a code how did you get it to work if you dont mine me asking??

I just plugged it in m8, was told it wouldnt need a code and it didnt.... it had already been updated and new maps added etc.... I didnt mess about with any wiring apart from swapping 2 wires for the iPod and it occasionally asks me for a code but doesn't follow any logic, ie after 2 weeks away it started up fine, but on a short trip to Sainsburys yesterday asked me for the code!!! I just reset it and its fine after 20 seconds or so...
