I was reading up on these devices that can connect to iPhones and others with the correct app, and can read engine stats like temp, boost etc.

I saw that whoz_me and V0id had them at the Yorkshire meet and was wondering if anyone had any info on which ones to get and which app to use.

I have an iPhone and have read up a few apps but would like to know about the OBD II device as it would be a good gadget to see the engine stats while driving (not obstructing driving concentration btw lol)

Any help on this would be appreciated thanks :)

I have found apps for the iPhone called Rev, and another called DashCommand. Both have very good interfaces from what I have found out and now just need a Bluetooth/Wifi OBD tool. Any suggestions? (Preferably Low Cost)

I use a ELM 327 OBDII Bluetooth with the Android Torque App.

Works very well. Can be used for engine fault codes plus to monitor different sensors and has a timer digital speedo, rev counter etc.

I've got the App on an Android, not sure if its available on the iGroan though mate. The adaptors range anywhere from £10-15 up to over £100, just google and there will be loads of them!:D

I think most people have them on Android using that Torque app.. Torque is not available on the iPhone :(

So just wondering if that ELM 327 OBD II tool will work with Rev or DashCommand on iPhone?

Also as I have the VAGCOM cable, is there software that can do this sensor monitoring as in measure WHP, MPG and the rest. And will it work with the cable?

Oh yeah I was supposed to get back to you about this - got busy and forgot :(

I got my adapter off ebay for 20 quid (i paid a little extra to buy one of the 'tested' ones, didnt want to mess about with faulty returns, etc which seem to be common with the cheap ones). search for 'obd2 bluetooth' or similar

im using an android phone so i setup torque, was pretty straightforward.. it even tracks journeys and stuff and can log boost, etc it even has a nice alert that tells you when engine is warmed up

heres how my setup looks:

as you can see i have everything i need.. engine temps, boost gauge and some other bits of info that doesnt hurt. it is very customizable though, so everyone will have a different set of gauges/styles/etc

only issues ive had are:

1) cheap bluetooth adapters are known to drain battery so you have to remove it when car is not in use - looking to upgrade to a proper adapter soon but they are between 100-200 for a decent one.
2) cant figure out how to display oil temperature or oil level gauges.. dont think these are supported on torque as of yet?

but a boost gauge+other gauges for a total of 23 quid (including app).. you cant go wrong!

Thanks for getting back with this V0id :)

Just need someone with some feedback using an iPhone, there has to be someone lol otherwise will have to wait till I go to a meet to see if someone brings one along and can test it with my phone. Not considering buying an Android for the sake of one app lol

Also V0id, if you could PM the link of the one you bought as there are so many, I would ask the seller if it works with an iPhone? I dont want to mess around with faulty/non working versions either as its hassle

I have a VAGCOM cable for that lol, thanks for the item number.

Do you know if there is software that can be used with a laptop and the cable I already have that does the same thing?

i think dash command works on a PC - never tried it though
heres a list of pc obd software, worth a look through: http://www.scantool.net/software/

i have a vagcom cable too.. but i only use it for adaptations now.. too much of a hassle carrying around a laptop when you always have your phone to hand :)
