Hi people.

im going to test drive a seat leon Cupra R this weekend. Its a 2004 with 30k on the clock.

Ive spoken to people that have owned these cars and they seem very happy with them. Good MPG if driven right but also has the power when needed. Just wanted to ask a few questions before i lay down 13k on the car, so any help would be ace. Its coming from a seat dealer that only deals with seats.

1) Do these car really get 30-35mpg if driven normally with a bit of motor and bit of town driving?

2) Anything i should look out for? ive read a few thread about simple things like rear badge being in good condition and front spots etc.

3) What mods should i look at doing first. I have looked at the following so just wondered if people have tried these out.

----- Full Magnex Exhaust with De cat pipe
----- Black Dimond combi disks all round with Green EBC pads
----- Forge " The Splitter, a Recirculation and Blow Off Valve"
----- Forge " A Cold Side Valve Relocation Kit for VAG 1.8T 225hp Engines"
----- Forge " [FM225IND - A Silicone Induction Hose for the VAG"

and then once i get some more money moving to a front mount intercooler.

All of the above i look to do nearly straight after purchasing the car, depending on warranty from the dealer so any views would be most helpful.

Thanks
Steve

1. Answer here.

2.Problems section

3. Depends what you want, 007p from forge for DV is a good start, TIP yup, decat, if you want to go stage 2 tunning, and exhaust if you want noise. coldside relocate, nah!, fabia wiper - defo! get the Ferrodo DS2500 pads if your changing them and team them with EBC grooved and dimpled discs!

oh, and no reason for FMIC unless going for BIG power or turbo change!

Ok thanks for that. I dont want massive noise but would be nice to hear the waste gate a bit. So you think its worth doing the following

1) DV
2) Relocate the cold air
3) Pads and disks but use EBC. Any reason for EBC disks?
4) Fabia wiper. Take it you mean rear wiper?
5) exhaust if i want noise. Do you know if it will increase BHP with decat and magnex full system?

Ive looked all over and cant find anyone using a Magnex exhaust, i always purchase these for my cars as they give a nice tone and good BHP increase. Most have pugs tho so might be different for the VAG lump

Thanks
Steve

Hey,

Nice choice of motor :) :funk:
I would check that it does not pull to the left too much. This seems to be a common problem.
Listen out for rattles whilst driving. You can expect a few, but if there are any coming from the door direction, it may mean that the speaker/tweeter is faulty.
Could also mean that the door card aint been put in properly
Make sure that the AC works correctly. The lowest temp should be cold enough for you to see condensation whilst breathing
Demand that you get at least 2 new front tyres and pads for the front if they are looking low. You will soon find out that these get munched like no tomorrow whilst driving (especially if u have a heavy right foot ).
Apart from that, I would say that you will be getting a very fast desirable car and I am sure you will love it.

All the best,
[B)]

I'll ditto what super said. I bought an LCR a few months ago. Defo check the tyres and if they are low do not agree a price until they agree to replace at least the front ones, and yes i have the problem of the LCR pulling to the left and have had the dealer look at it once but did not fix it. That seems to be a common problem.

Also you say its got 30k on the clock - if it has not had its 30k service negotiate that is done before you pick up the car - saves you time and £100 or so.

As long as it drives well, looks good condition and full clear hpi check you should be ok.

Hope you like the car and buy it!

Untill you are going over 300bhp leave the exhaust alone....no extra power gains just noisier

Hmm by wastegate I assume you mean Dump Valve noise or Turbo spooling, Wastegate Chatter (like the old rally car sound) is actually the turbo stalling which means your turbo will fail very quickly.....to hear the turbo fit an induction kit / big cone filter and an air feed.

thanks for your help. Will check the tyres and door speakers. will be changing the speakers with in a few days but might be able to haggle with the price.

just got to find the right one for me and at the right price. my local garage as one in with 42k on the clock and they want just uder 12k which is a rip off.

think its worth about 10.5k really. But not to sure if i should haggle or just get one with lower miles on it.

any ideas?

And really would like to speak to someone that has a Magnex exhaust

not really, maybe run smoother. more of a race sound if that makes sense. not Nova noise but so it stands out from other Cupra Rs around town.

Would you get a power gain with a de cat?

Sorry for the exhaust questions but im use to pugs and a magnex makes a huge improvement

Hi,
I've got the Magnex cat back on mine fixed upto a blueflame d/p and high flow cat which sound very good in my opinion. It sound really raw when planting the loud pedal but on motorway cruises it's hardly noticable. Also as far as i know if you decat it you will get an engine check light unles you get a stage 2 map which writes out the post cat lambda sensor.
