My Leon doesn't use any petrol

Hi,

I've had my Leon Cupra for less than a day so I am full of questions.

I've done about 60 miles, but the fuel gauge is still showing "Full" (I filled it to max before zeroing the counter). Is this one of the counters where it stays Full before dropping quickly, or is there something potentially broken?

Gauge was showing near-empty when I picked it up from the dealer.

Hi mate, is it an cupra r or fr? if u put your foot down in my lcr you can watch the needle drop. It does sit at full for a while then drops gradually. :(
Thats what you have to compromise when you want power;)

Dude. Got my cupra not long ago myself and found exactly the same thing. I filled up in Southampton, drove all the way up the M3, round the M25 and the needle didn't move from full until I got to the M1 turn-off... when it definately started moving!! Range fluctuated between 335 and 340 miles all the way as well.
I just put it down to the fuel sensor being slightly lower in the tank than I'm used to and would therefore take longer to register that we'd used any fuel on a full tank.

Awesome. Thanks guys.

I picked up my Seat from Kings in Portsmouth, incidentally. Nice to see another Cupra owner in the area!

Shame that my Cupra isn't running on magic after all though.

Fuel guages in VAG cars arnt linear
Yep, definitely not. As soon as my car drops just below the 1/4 line that's it. I've had mates say "You've got 1/4 of a tank left yet", and I'm like "Yeah, that means about 25 miles till the fuel light comes on ...".

The amount the fuel guage moves depends on how you're driving.

for example, fill up, do 20 laps of donington, and the tank will be showing up as only 1/4 full.

leave donington, drive down the M1, and within a few miles, it'd go back up to showing you having more than 1/2 full.

That kinda figures, after a massive thrash in my old cupra the guage flew down, parked it up over night, got in the next morning and it had gone up noticeably. Maybe its something to do with the amount of fuel in the pipes and how quick its moving through them.

Leon fuel gauge...

Gauge slows Real fuel level
Full Anything above 3/4 tank
Just below Full 3/4 tank
3/4 tank 1/2 tank
1/2 tank 1/4 tank
1/4 tank 1/8 tank if you're lucky!
Light on (1/8 tank) 1 Gallon left!!
Gauge hits empty Start walking - it really is!!

Well, that's what I learn on my LCR anyway!! Range of about 280 - 300 miles, and 80-odd miles being done before the needle moved from the FULL mark!

knocking around town i get about 220 to 250 miles on a full tank, but never noticed the needle sticking to full for any length of time. on a long run the most i have seen the trip computer say is 30.6MPG. is my LCR as un-economical as the others?

More economical than mine was!! (26 - 27mpg on steady motorway runs, about 22 - 24mpg any other time)

Thats not good, I get nearly 100 miles before the gauge starts to move... and always above 320 to a tank... mainly pootling along, with a bit of caning in there... most I've had on a motorway run (according to computer) was 37.2 over about 85 miles......

Glad i read those i thought i had a leak! Only had mine couple of months so i'm still getting used to the fuel bill. My low fuel warning light comes on at 1/4 tank and i thought it was early.

computer says i'm getting 330 miles to a full tank. Also my instantaneous mpg reading is all over the place, goes from 4 mpg  to 278!!!:D Anyone elses do that?:wtf:
