Your scene tho so not bothered about performance , I had one before I knew anything about the car because I liked the look , changed it and never went back there crap great if your cars under 200bhp

Yeah, my BMC is just the case. It has a massice cyclonic Green filter housed inside, with a 100mm twin air feed; therefore gets plenty of air flow. The BMC filter is rather small and I can see why it is restrictive. But, still a good filter IMO :)

On another note, I've accepted advice and I have sourced some new Brembo retaining pins. Through Seat they are in the region of 70 quid + VAT for two retaining pins :blink:

So, done some reading and have come to understand that the Ford Focus RS Mk 1 uses the same pins. Went on the FordParts site and bought a set of four pins and two spring clips for 28 quid +VAT.

They feel solid and robust. Very impressed. Hopefully they'll have been worth the money and effort.

I'll use what time I have in the week to get as much done as I can. Ideally it'll all be working by the weekend. Hopefully my retaining pins will be with me by then too.

Once I finished work, this evening I spent some time on the car.

First job was to fit the PSI gauge within the holder that had been previously made. Frustrating was the fact that I’d made a hole to fit a 40mm gauge, but it’s actually 35mm. So I had to make an infill out of plastic and then I re-wrapped the module in black fabric. It was a bit fiddly and took a little longer than I wanted to spend on it, but I think it came out well?

Next, I took the KW suspension struts apart and fitted the Static+ modules. I lubricated everything and the required machine milling that needed to be done was thankfully to the right measurements :beer: Fitted like a glove, achieving that air tight seal that is needed.

All this took a couple of hours. If I have time tomorrow, I’ll remove the passenger side bolts and hopefully I can then think about removing the original suspension.

Super chuffed with myself this morning…

I set about removing the passenger side suspension strut. Bearing in mind I’ve never done this, I took my time and followed the guides on this forum, everything flowed without any issues.

I mentioned in an earlier post that I didn’t feel too confident in being able to remove the wishbone bolts and that I’d probably pay to have them replaced. Well…

As with everything else, I followed the method of using a wire brush and blowtorch to remove the rusty bolts (all of them!) The wishbone came out really easily. The refurbed wishbone with poly bushes went in nicely too. All torqued up, I then fitted the new ball joint and torqued all that up. I then fitted the KW strut with Static+ unit and torqued all that up. I finally put all the fittings back on the strut before having to call it a day as I’m off out this afternoon.

I have a full day tomorrow to do the driver’s side, plumb the airlines in and I’ll also give everything a good scrub. My retaining pins are at the Post Office so I’ll collect those on Monday. It’ll be sat back on its wheels by Wed I hope. Then it’s holiday time.

On the week that I get back, I’m gonna get my wheels refurbed and my new tyres fitted at the same time. Desperately overdue :whistle: I’ll have the tracking done and then she’ll hopefully feel super smooth to drive…

Following Saturday’s work, Sunday was much the same. Removing the driver’s side suspension strut and wishbone didn’t turn out to be too problematic, apart from the strut was painfully slow in coming out of the hub housing. Everything buttoned back up just fine, but it is a little unnerving that this is my own work, so everything was checked over and over… I’ll probably get the garage to check everything over after a few miles when the wheels have a full alignment.

Once I was happy with all that, I fed the airlines and secured everything within the engine bay. I haven’t taken a picture, just because I ran out of time, but it’s all hidden so you’re not missing much. Then it was plumbed in… snag hit but more on that later. The wheel wells were scrubbed as were the alloys and spacers. The callipers were touched up where needed but tbh, it was two spots where I’d tried to remove the pins from the front on the passenger’s side. I’m really impressed with how they have held up over this past winter.

With everything cleaned and shinny, the wheels were put back, with one of the fronts exchanged with a rear in prep for the tyre changes (olds at front ready for new).

My pad retaining pins arrived yesterday. The pins were the perfect fitment but the clips were too big, but I just used my old retaining clips. For less than 30 quid for a complete set, I’ve made such a saving :funk:

They were fitted this evening and then the car was taken out for a slow drive, just to make sure nothing was going to fall off... Everything feels nice and sturdy. Once the new tyres are on and aligned after my holiday, a more spirited drive will happen and hopefully I’ll notice the money and effort that has been sunk into this most recent round of mods. This has been a really long time coming and the fact that it’s all my own work, I’m super impressed with myself :D

Not to leave on a sour note but my compressor is presently unable to pump beyond 25 PSI, so I’m not achieving lift. It might be that a larger current (80 amp fuse from the battery rather than 50 amp which is presently in situ) is needed. Once I’m back, I’ll use the manual Schrader valve to pump up the system to made sure it’s not restricted anywhere. Minor teething problems but should hopefull be a quick fix...

Next on the agenda… Full wheel refurbishment. Probably going to stick with high power silver… :confused:

Thanks, Pics and vids will be done once I'm back off holiday in three weeks or so. The car is driving really nicely. I'm quite surprised by just how much the turn in characteristics have changed with the polys. Looking forward to having the new tyres on with refurbed wheels and all balanced/aligned up.

Back off my hols yesterday so thought I would give a little update.

Firstly, I was flicking through July's PVW mag and read that ECS Tuning have released rear wheel centering plates for the MK 4 platform.

Basically, the plates fit between the rear beam's fixing points to realign the offset that occurs when the rear is lowered (wheel sits centre again). ECS sell them for $109 plus $65 shipping. Thankfully I found that PSI Tuning are a distributor so I managed to get them posted for £88.65 all in. I don't think an LCR/LC has yet been fitted with these, so like the Static+ Air Lift kit, I think my car might be the first?

I also purchased some Powerflex rear bushes, seeing as I've replaced the majority of the oe bushes already. I purchased them for £50 again through PSI Tuning. Ade from PSI emailed me to say that the plates will be coming from the US so have an ETA of 2-3 weeks. The bushes are already at the Post Office awaiting collection. I've read on the forum that the rear bushes are difficult to remove but hopefully it'll be the final jigsaw piece to finish off all the handling upgrades. I'll be fitting it all myself when everything has arrived.

I've also been in touch with a guy called Shaun Simpson, who is a wheel refurbisher. He came highly recommended by mates from my home town of Nottingham. He has a mobile service so has agreed to pop over on the 20th of this month. His work is meant to be excellent. He has quoted me £200 all in for five wheels to be fully refurbished in silver. This has been long overdue so hopefully it will take the car one step closer to being a good example. I thought I would get the spare wheel done for the colour match, even though it has ever only done a handful of miles.

I want to have all the rolling stuff completely done by the end of the month so that I can move on to other things. I need to refine the Air Lift system, adjust the suspension mm perfect, fit the ECS plates, and have the front aligned once the wheels have been refurbished. A lot of money has been sunk into the handling stuff over the last couple of years and it's nice that it has all been fitted now (all by me) and at least I know it has been finished to a high standard, and will drive as well as it can.

Good find, definately a future mod for me, I can see a lot of people going for these. Although it will raise the car slightly I'd just need to drop the ride height to compensate.

I think they were released in March 2012, but it was the first I'd heard of them. It's a subtle mod but hopefully it'll achieve a nice wheel placement. I didn't think about the raise, but because it's on the pivit point, I can't imagine that it would give that much of a lift?

Hopefully they will arrive soon and I'll post up a review and pictures, if that helps :)

Good find with the video. Iv been watching a couple of lads threads on vwvortex seeing what reviews they gave them. Spotted in PVW, but if your giving them a shot that's perfect ;-)

Thanks buddy. I've never ventured onto VW vortex, but may be I should... I did read that with Air Ride, you might not be able to use them in some cases. I'm not sure why this would be? Direction of wheel movement upon lift/lower? Not sure but I think it would be fine on your car wouldn't it?

Hope all is well with your car? If you need any pointers with the BMC filter swap, just give me a shout. With reference to a point at the top of the page (sorry I missed it) I bought a 80mm headed filter and it was fitted directly to the MAF, and from there I made the outer casing fit around the filter, then it was fitted to the twin-air feed. I did a write-up a few pages back, if that helps :)

Yeah iv went over your stuff on the bmc a few times now, I'm pretty sure I know where I'm going with it now, it's pretty much bang on what I'm after. Keep it up
