but i dont know?

any one suggest some tasteful mods? i will post pictures of the car soon

thanks, would appreciate the help!

hey mate! welcome! get posting and get some pics up :D

usually the reflective strip on the back only comes on gtis? the tail lights have reflectors built in so spraying the rear strip shouldnt be a problem, providing its the bit i think your on about :)

i have a 1.4sxe too!

Firstly welcome to the forum! :D. Get some pics up when you have enough posts to do it.

As for the reflector you could always get a black one from someone breaking an Ibiza on ebay etc and swap it over.

I think the sxe's came with a reflector on the back as theres one goes about in my town and it has the red reflector aswell.

Those plates arent road legal as they dont have the postcode etc on the bottom of them and they are in German font.

Saying that the plates I have are pressed and german font and had them for 2-3 years and never had a problem with them.

thanks guys

just a few points, my car is sorn atm, and i want to make any mods before i put it back on the road.

im 18 and insurance is a biatch! will cutting a few coils out my springs be a 'need to know' mod?

im thinking rusted steelys on satin black now, abhardwaj1990 thanks for the link some great ideas there!

and i will order those plates and keep the standard ones for 'emergencies'

Please don't cut your springs.

Best thing to do, call your insurance and find out how much extra it would be for the mods, sometimes its not that much so worth a try.

As for plates, order from dubmeister, they're legal and not much more than the ones you've found.

Welcome, Im new here myself. I would suggest lowering of some sort as first mod. It isnt good to cut your springs especially as lowering springs are so cheap. Regarding insurance, I found that the bigger companies wouldnt insure me with mods and that its better to go to a specialist. Easier sid than done if youre midway througha policy.

insurance is a git aint it

some crazy prices i was quoted. coil overs dont help my wallet when it comes to insuring them

thanks abhardwaj1990, but tempted to risk it for the extra bit of euro with the german font.
can keep spares in boot maybe.

i got a sticker for me car, 80mm OD, 'limited to 150mph' , where should i put it.

corner of window or bumper?:headhurt:

My first mod was putting the GTI seats into my car, that alloys and open cone air filter was all I did.

i had a valver, (16v 2l AKA the fastest Mk2) and by the time i finished with it it was ratty lol had a gaffa taped wing, broken front grill dents everywhere and rust on the rear arches.

none where done by me. if its your first car honestly just drive it and enjoy it before moding it.

but if your gonna do it,

satin black
DEWIPER IT
wrap the roof with vinyl printed in an argyle pattern
have a rusty bonnet
gaffa tape a wing
run low
run lower
no seriously LOWER
take the back box off. theres a join before a 90degree bend. it WILL sound like a rally car
have 4 diffrent wheels all in weird colours
use a gun and shot random pannels
hang a toy/real rat off your rear toeing eye
run even lower
get rid of the wing mirrors and run just one on the end of the bonnet
chequer something
white wall tyres
pressed plates put on between a 15 and 55 degree angle.
even lower

does any one know a cheapish car sprayer in the north east? i can for see massive hassle and chew with doing it via rattle can. still wanting it satin black though.

will clear coat over the top ruin the affect and make it shiney?

big pete not such a fan of the bra lol, and that sounds like true rat! maybe should sand it down to bare metal and leave it outside for a week!

*please note - sarcasum

The car should be ratty enough after a year with a new driver.

Cutting your springs is an MOT failure if they spot it and if 5-0 do a spot check on the car and find them they will bum you until you bleed, also if you dont get them all spot on you could find yourself in a hedge or something worse. Thats my grown up bit out of the way.

If you want to tart her up then I would suggest going for OEM+ parts off of higher model GTi's and the like, bigger wheels will make the car look lower, sports seats, maybe a decent back box. They are all the kinda things the insurance would let you off for.

If moneys tight go for second hand mods as people on here change parts a fair bit there is usually something to be found on Ebay.
