Ah i forgot about coconuts.
And well done on the ecu knowledge, I hadn't thought about that being required!!

Have a coconut from me too ;)
My last tank average was 36mpg which I didnt think was too bad, did manage 43mpg today on my commute out of the city :D

I'm 24 so not too old. Mine does so well because it low mileage, fully serviced up and mainly because i do mines of A roads a day so it gets to stretch its legs away from town traffic.

If i were to stick a tenner in and go out with the boys i doubt i'd get beyond 50 miles.

if they are my frieds they all turbo cars so no point in you tryig to keep up, these are two old now to be fast, i wanna change mine to a newer ibiza i the future

you my friend are not a mk2 lover!
its simple fun (yes not got the torque of turbo's cars) but for a NA car, it's amazing! handles good, simple fun!

a mate of mine has a Suzuki Ignis Sport (it's only a 1.5, but weighs like 870kg) and he has spent thousands on it, it's got 135bhp about, and still cannot keep up with mine (it has nothing done to mine)

you comparing it to turbo's, obviously it will be slower, compare to NA cars :)

(you all can tell i am falling in love with it more now :))

Dont be to quick to say that mate,

You cant really compare the ibiza 16v & 8v to any turbo cars as 1 remap for £260 adds another 30bhp to their cars. £230 spent on ours....well, that wouldnt even buy you a cam.

I have made many a sales rep look like a fool in my 16v and also many 08 / 09 plate cars who think that just becuase my reg stars with a V its not fast.....its one of the things i enjoy most about owning an ibiza 16v.

There is know doubt though that for MPG, performace and practicality a trubo car ticks all the boxes....bang for £$£$£.

what the history on a 16v, maybe it could do good service.

when i got my first 16v i thought maybe i had underestimated it but a service showed i was only running on half throttle and once cleaned out it made a big difference. the power to weight on the 16v is awesome. when you put your foot down your should see the front rise.

I do love mine, gets 40mpg + on my regular run from my place in Wexford to my girlfriends in Belfast!

One of my mates was telling me I should get something smaller (engine wise) when I told him I get 40mpg + he fell over, thing is he drives an Impreza and is lucky to get 25!

Still think there's potentially more to come as I've got a feeling the cat has gone and it certainly needs a AFM.

maybe but it has no probs with usual vtr's etc think it was just a case of motorway pulling power of a diesel

was well pleased with 120 mile on £20. would expect 250 on a tank, thirsty valver. but my G60 has to have a tenner everytime i start it, so i guess the ibiza is reasonable compared.

Lola my lil 1.4 sxe is going great now the thermostat sorted, getting return of around 300 - 320 from a tank, and i must be honest, i'm a headcase behind the wheel really lol.
in saying that i could easily blow half a tank over 70 miles or so if i put my mind to it :)

i think she could be improved a little though, ill see what happens once my new metal finned water pump is in, conbined with the knowlede that i will have a new cam belt.

the other half has just done a blinder, 570 miles to the tank put 43L back in so that works out at just over 60mpg :)

I got 289 miles and it cost me 38.70 to fill back up (101.9p/L) with 35.5mpg on the clocks

Not too bad for a valver I guess

still aint topped my tank yet, however. when approaching the filling station the other day i saw the fuel light flick on just as i rolled up to the pump.
i put exactly 2 gallons in, 9.9 litres. and set the trip meter just to see how lola is doing since she got her new remus exhaust.
a couple days later and several heavy footed blasts through town, with one six mile jaunt along the motorway i saw that the trip had reached 65.4 miles just as the light reapeared. i make that a healthy 32.9 mpg in town, and our town is gridlocked lately!

i would imagine that these figuresa would suffer with motorway speeds in lola though as the revs do tend to creep up when hitting cruising speeds. still i cannot belive how frugal she has been despite my lead foot and love of the sound she makes on over-run dropping from high revs.
all i can say is wow really.

well done to my lil lola, 1.4 sxe 1997 model

I always set off with the intention of "nursing it" to get the most out of my fuel, however I tend to forget after about half of the tank and drop the boot rendering all results inadmissable lol.
