How easy are these things to fit? Hows the pagid investigation going?

TBH i was hoping to go grooved as well - wouldn't this make a diff for wet braking? How bad is pad wear likely to be?

Fitment is bolt on. Nothing cleaver.

No need for grooves... they work fine as they are.
Pagid pad info is with me for choosing.

Std pads work very well on the mkiv so there is'nt a great need for another pad material. Performance pads will be upwards of £120/set compared to £60/set for OE stock Galfer ones

Ok just that i'm running pagids now and i luuuuurrrrrvee them compared to stock. I'm assuming we're taking FR pads so same properties as i have now (brake dust + better braking)?
Do you recommend a brake fluid change at the same time btw? I'm still running OE stuff :(

opening up the brake fluid lines will pretty much mean that most of the fluid drains anyway - so you may as well consider it a change (as the brembo will need filling

Jonah - will email you back re: fitting.

You will also lurrrrrvvvvveeee :p the Brembo ones. They are comparible with Pagid Fast Road pads in performance. (Pagids own words)
I currently run Super Dot4 which seems to work fine.

Ok cool :) Can you supply the fluid as well? I'll be ready to order monday!

Fluid is available at most car accessory stores, thats where I would get some.. Carriage weigth is (iffy) on max 30Kg, and I fear brake fluid would push it over the edge.

Super Dot4 its called.
Seems to be a pretty common std now.

Wouldn't the plain discs not fade on a track day? I've heard of LCR brakes fading away to nothing under track use. I think the MY03 17" wheels are ET38 so I'm guessing that they won't fit behind them - they look a tight squeeze behind your wheels!

Let me put it this way.
I ran them on a 400bhp mkiv Golf and got zero brake fade after repeated bashing around Castle Combe.

Running 312mm stock disks and Pagid Fast Road pads I previously lost brakes after only 5 mins abuse.

Zero fade. 400bhp mkiv Golf, Brembo equipped.
:D

They rock!

Yeah but your discs have got grooves in them!!! Or are you saying that was with plain discs then, I'm confused now?

Grooves have nothing to do with fade..... Heat introduces fade... grooves just wears pads at a faster rate. :(

Running std plain disks they stop equally as well, but quieter and with less pad wear. Pad de-glazing is the grooves purpose, but I have never glazed these pads on track use. Worn a few sets out for sure, but never had glazing.

Never noticed disks suffer from water film ever.
Drums.... in years gone by, but never disks.
Grooves are there to "wipe" the pad surface to aid deglazing.

Good thing I got in when I did then!

Saw the Golf on the front of something like "Car Mechanic" yesterday and on the inside cover a piccie of you looking very smug refering to an article inside about tuning Golfs - not info about you or the Mark IV though which I though was strange - maybe you should chase them for royalties.
