Just because its not worth anything to some, doesnt mean it doesnt deserve some love  Shame not everyone has the same initiative to do something to their car. Would avoid alot of bangers and unsafe cars on the road. Good work

Front end of the car totally finished now (apart from front grille, haven't cleaned it up yet)

Fitted steering column from donor car yesterday. Advice on fitting a steering column on an Arosa: Don't! nightmare job.Spent a week sorting out the electrics as I wanted to fit the central locking system and electric windows off the donor car. This meant painstakingly undoing the wiring loom off the donor car as I don't have a circuit diagram at all and there's no less than 33 wires going into the central locking box. Then I had the problem of mating it to an alarm system I got off ebay. But I think I'm there now and going to start fitting the interior this weekend. Inside is bare at the moment:

Good work again !! If you get hold of a MK4 polo haynes manual you get some wiring diagrams in the back honey  Not sure if they wouldve helped out with the steering column rewiring though.

Didnt make meself clear: steering column wiring was no problem, fitting the steering column itself was difficult lol. I did this because the donor car came with 2 identical keys whereas my arosa only had one key for the ignition and another for the rest fo the locks. I wanted one key to do everything and a spare to do the same. Found a very low tech way to get round the immobiliser problem lol. Anyway I took friday off work and had a very productive weekend in the garage. All electrics finished and working, alarm operates the deadlocks & electric windows work fine, interior is in and doors off the donor car are fitted. I took my baby for a drive round the field as well! All is well except that it pulls violently to the right if you let go of the wheel; tracking need setting up as I replaced the steering rack earlier. Still got some interior bits to fit. The headlinig need cleaning so I haven't put that back yet and a few trim panels. Really pleased with the interior-its like new. went to halfords today and bought a set of 5 spoke alloys and got a a new stereo off ebay. Next job then is to respray the doors. Unfortunately I've not ever done any paint spraying so looking for a book or something to get started lol. Here's me latest pics:

Have enjoyed myself to be honest, not done anything like this for years. Fitted new wheels today looks fab and fitted stereo that I got off ebay. Decent unit with usb and sd card slots with bluetooth handsfree all built in; £87 free postage bargain or what!!! Went to the paintshop today but the geezer didn't understand the paintcode ffs. Will go back tommorrow with a copy of the sticker in the boot. Hope to get started on spraying the doors sometime this week, then its MOT time lol. Won't post any more pics till I've done the doors.

First thing, I got to say your doing an excellent job!

Im must say i have read this post off an on and i think you must be really determined to do this. An old car like that usually would just get run to the ground then left in Cardiff train station car park left to die or something.

Aslong as you gonna put it to use where you can get satishfaction im guessing you gonna be happy, it looks well good and well worth every minite you spent on it, I wont ask the cost lol.

Keep it up, im enjoying the post and pictures!

All the best.

Hasn't really cost that much really. Iv'e not added it all up yet but I made a good few quid selling parts of the donor car and still have a rake of stuff to list. I'll be interested total it all up at the end but at the end of the day the car is almost like new now with a low mileage so its been worth it without a doubt. Insurance on my truck runs out on 9th december so must have this project completed before then. I'm putting truck off the road as it costs fortunes to run in diesel and insurance and London low emissions regulations are going to make it impossible to run in a couple of years time. Anyone want a top of the range nissan navara???? lol

quick update: have set up spray booth in a disused room at work, nice & warm in there lol, started to strip down the trim, rubbers, mirrors etc today. slight dent on passenger door to be filled. Bought high build primer, base coat and laquer for £70 (crying) so all set to get this thing on the road within a couple of weeks. Got a Momo steering boss of ebay for £26 and went to halfords today and got a new steering wheel, end of line & going cheap! Really matches the new alloys funnily enough. Got an instructional DVD of ebay for paint spraying but i'm not hopeful lol. Wish me luck!!

Looks like a fun restoration!

When you said your son trashed it... what did he do exactly?!

Here's the doors ready for rubbing down. The passenger door has a slight dent from the crash which needs filling.

Yer a clever lad Grotmeister, I used to restore cars in my heyday, rebuid Jaguar and Truimph engines, welding, electrics and all mechanical work but painting I could never do, never had the patience. You'll soon be on the road then.
