You can no longer update HW50 devices yourself with an SD card. Activation via Odis is required. Then the mode is activated, then you can or will carry out the update with SD, but Odis is always active, then after the update Odis completes the update. It can only be done by opening the unit etc.

I was going to suggest seeing if you can just pop the volume knob off and swap it, but seeing @cairus post, maybe not!

Thanks for letting me know that Full Link is more stable with 515; I’ll get it updated at some point, as while the CarPlay dropouts aren’t that regular, they are frustrating, and you don’t know what Apple are doing with every iOS update, so worth keeping the car as up to date as possible.

Did you update the system yourself? If so, where did you download from? There seem to be a few places, but concerned about downloading something that bricks it!
I thought the same about swapping the knobs so I compared my knob with my buddy that has the same as you and his was slightly but noticeably bigger so they aren't interchangeable sadly.

I did update it myself, the file is 3.41gb so can't offer to send it to you but there are some sources online that are safer than others. For 5f updates, https://mibsolution.one is one source that has never let me down in a pinch. For all other modules such as ECU, BCM etc I used to get them directly from VW Group via Erwin but they have stopped offering the SW files now as they are downloaded directly through ODIS now.

Correct, the button I showed is unfortunately too big. You can change the button, but you have to have the new one first 😅

My 877A unit is H50 and updated it without fuss. ODIS isn't needed until the final stage of accepting the docs to finalise the update but as previously, this step isn't strictly needed for the unit to function.

I did this as I have ODIS but won't impact the update if it's not done.

Thanks guys, I’m not confident that I won’t brick it by just having a go with an online download file, so will look to getting it done professionally. Thanks for all your comments.

@ViperSlider , isn’t it a bit early for all that knob innuendo? :ROFLMAO:

Sorry, I really confused it with the patch, it doesn't work with SD cards anymore. You can do the update yourself without any problems. I just did it myself.
