Low biting point on clutch

Afternoon all, can anyone help me?

Over the last few weeks I've noticed the biting point of the clutch has been ridiculously low, most noticeably when pulling away in the morning or leaving work after the car's been standing.

It's literally been to the point where i lift my foot 1cm off the floor and the car moves. The clutch has also gone very 'snatchy' - there's next to no movement between the clutch being disengaged and engaged - it's either on or off, so engine braking is impossible.

The car drives perfectly apart from that - once warmed up (literally after 1 min) the clutch point moves up, but still seems very low. Absolutely no slippage on the clutch, and the clutch pedal itself still moves up and down with the same feel as normal. No issues with gears either.

Obviously its booked in for tomorrow to have it looked at - when it was serviced a month back they noticed it had around 5% water in the brake fluid so I'm having the brakes and clutch bled (they use the same resevoir) to see if this sorts it and have it generally looked over.

I've had a search and only found one similar result which was down to the master clutch cylinder - hoping its this at worst as it's not a major issue getting that replaced.

Anyone else had this?

I personally think it's something hydraulic, ie master / slave cylinder, old fluid, or possibly a leak / air in the system.

The clutch is spot on, no slipping under any circumstances, so unless the pressure plate is playing up I'd be pretty certain its not that serious. It's getting sorted regardless...

I'll post back in the next few days with an update incase anyone else gets this problem.

I would be tempted to say fluid related... my gearbox grinds into 2nd when it's cold once it's shifted a couple of gears and got the fluid round and warmed up its perfect... pre 02m shim...

Right ... Had the car checked out and theyre pretty sure its the thrust bearing ... Basically advised me to change the clutch. Which also means the DMF. Damn it.

Been quoted £300 for labour, so looks like I need to source a new clutch kit and DMF.

To be fair the guys at the garage were spot on (as usual), they said its not urgent by any means, it'll just be an annoyance more than anything for the meantime.

So ... On the lookout for a new clutch kit and DMF. Now do I go down the OEM / LUK route from ECP, or do I upgrade?
