Lost locking wheel nut key

Ladies & Gents, I'm after some advice please. A couple of weeks ago I took the FR in for it's second service and while it was there they kindly repaired a slow puncture for me as part of the service, I was well chuffed, can't big up the dealer enough as they have always been great with me.

Got out of the car last night and noticed a dirty great screw in the tyre, unfortunately it is right on the sidewall so new tyre required, well ticked off as it was only about 4 weeks old :censored:. Anyway, went to put the space saver on only to find that the locking key is missing, the only ones to use it recently were the dealer and I know it was there after the new boots were fitted because I took the wheels off to thoroughly clean them inside and put the locking key back in the foam in the boot, hence the dealer found it when doing the puncture repair.

Now then, I can't remove the wheel so how do I go about removing the locking nut. I am ringing the dealer first thing but i'll bet my mortgage they don't know where the locking key is. What are my options as I can't conclusively prove they lost it and the car is used for business every day so i need it back on the road asap.

Thanks in advance.

Have a good look in the glove box or in the boot where the spare is...the dealers never put it in the correct place! But give them a call in the morning (once you've checked the boot etc.) and see what they say....they might be able to get a replacement from the VIN code?

Thanks Rob but we've torn the car to bits, it is definitely missing. How would SEAT log the wheel nuts to the VIN number, is that even possible? and to be honest I can't wait a week for a new key to turn up.

Someone posted on here a few days ago about a replacement locking wheel nut and the dealer wasn't able to identify which ones were fitted as they had been replaced. Their records normally list all the parts fitted to the cars.

Mine are definitely the originals, but there are so many different keys how will they know what they have fitted from new?? Any idea how long a new one would take to arrive?

Chances are they might have it 'in a box'

I know the bloody Renault garage did with my Clio. Denied all knowledge of it and then said 'oh this one MIGHT fit but it's not an exact match'. What's the whole point in wheels nuts? they had my locking nut key in a box of about 30 all chucked in.

The records are from SEAT, not the dealer. The details of what equipment is fitted (when built) is normally very comprehensive and will probably list the code for the locking wheel nut. Parts ordered are normally delivered within 1-2 days.

Most dealers have a master set anyway if its Oem locks

They might let you borrow it if you're on good terms with them, so you can identify what number it is you need

if they are the OEM locking nuts, then they are typically from a set of about 25 different versions.
Not all, but most dealers have a complete set of keys so its just a case of going through them.

Ive dont this once at a skoda dealer whos near to me, they gave me the set and left me be in the carpark until i was done and returned the set FOC.
sounds like you could drive carefully to such a dealer?
