Not unlocking or locking by touch after update

As part of my service, my dealer did a software update that "stops keys being locked in the car". Since then, at times, opening and unlocking by pulling open the door handle and locking by touching the handle do not work.

After unlocking with the remote they work fine. However if I lock it and leave it locked for some time, I have to use the remote. This may be changed behaviour or a fault.

My dealer knows nothing about it but did say one customer had problems because the car was dirty!

How do I find out what the update was supposed to do? Yes I could ask the dealer but have flagged this up here in case someone else has had or will have the same problem.

They do have a sleep mode on the handles which is generally related to low car battery so all doors except the drivers side disable touch opening. Some early Formentors it seemed to be enabled on all doors... quite a few moans early on about getting locked out. Putting the door electronics to sleep saves power. That is a design feature but shouldn't be actioned on the drivers door.

Another one is remote battery, it might be too weak to enable the keyless to work. Might be a coincidence or they just messed up the coding of the door. It is quite complex least in the pre face lifted ones so they might have installed a software pack that is wrong. I'd complain after first checking the remote control battery. Change dealer if they don't get down to the bottom of it.

First thing I did was change the key fob batteries. However I did get a warning of low battery so I bought a smart battery charger and charged it last night. I will try later and see if that fixes it. It makes sense but both front doors didn't work.

You might have got the early Formentor bug where both doors go to sleep. That's incorrectly set up in Kessy if that happens (coding). The driver Kessy side is suppose to keep active. It's a car battery saving trick they put into Kessy but is only suppose to be on the passenger side.

A full battery seems to have worked. It was locked for 12 hours. I live in hope though. Thanks for the poiner. I don't do many miles, being retired so I should learn eh!

They didn't say much about the updare although I am pretty sure they described it as a recall. I couldn't find anything on it.

"See if SEAT ATECA XPERIENCE TSI EVO S-A has outstanding recalls
Hide
No recalls found."
It might have changed the behaviour so Kessy goes to sleep on both the passenger and drivers door. That's what early Formentors were doing. Mine (Ateca) just powers down on the passenger side so I have to walk round to the drivers side and grab the handle to open it via Kessy if left for a few days. So you might have got an update that does that.

Hmm actually I did get an update they put through in November on mine at service. It did mess up the coding I'd done on mirrors in on one touch, which is now implemented on all Seat Kessy systems from 2018 or so. Had to repeat the coding. So yes they were putting something out. Other than that it's been working fine.

Suspect yours was a low car battery.
