Its a **** subject insurance, just buy one and insure it third party with you as the driver, my first car was a £400 polo 1.0 group 2 or something daft, cost me £860 third party only with legal. next year i got my 1.4 group 4 Ibiza and paid £600 fully comp. Just get the first year gone and get your own no claims, best advice i can give. Anything £1000 and unders not worth fully comp anyway due to excess.
I will hold my hands up and say i've been at fault for 2 crashes and fortunately neither were my insurance, but then i got stung for one that wasn't really my fault, theres a thread on it somewhere, but now after 6 years my no claims is protected. It happens to us all and i reckon everyone will hold their hands up to something at some point. I just hope like me by the time it happens to you it won't affect you.
Cheap and slow is the way to go, if a 1.4 is out of your reach on your own insurance go for a 1.0 Ibiza, theres only 10bhp in it anyway and they are like a group 2, or an arosa which is much lighter, therefore nippyer but as well built.
Either way don't let this bother you its just a young driver thing, soon as your past your first year it comes down quick.
