To be blunt, insurance fronting is fraud.
The insurers would be well within their rights to refuse a claim, leaving you uninsured and looking down the barrel of 6 points, which would end up in your licence being revoked if it were to occur within 2 years of you passing your test.
The insurers would also be well within their rights to cancel the policy, which could make life difficult for either of you trying to obtain insurance in future.
I know insurance costs are high, but there's all sorts of reasons for this. I'm no big fan of insurance companies, but to be quite honest, the insurance companies aren't the only bad guys here - they're doing what any business that wants to remain a viable business would do, and that's passing on their costs to their customers. Personal injury claims have played a huge part in jacking up premiums. Cars cost more to repair than they used to - labour rates are higher than they used to be, because people are getting paid more and overheads are going up. And that impacts upon what is repairable and what isn't - once upon a time, panels would be hammered out, skimmed with filler and then painted, but all that time costs money tho, so nowadays they're more likely to just bolt on a new panel. Painted plastic bumpers are another example - a scrape in the paint would mean you'd need the whole thing repainting, which is likely to sting you several hours labour by time it's been prepared and painted. Whilst modern cars protect us better than older cars, they absorb much more of the impact and tend to incur a lot more damage as a result - which means more parts and yet more labour.
I've rambled off topic a little here, but seriously, do it right. Just because other people do it doesn't make it right. Or legal.
