I have just turned 17 and with a bit of begging to my parents i have found out that i can have a car insured for me. I have looked around the web for cars that are around the £1000 mark

i haven't got the money yet but aim to save it up in the coming months. seeing as i have never driven an ibiza before i thought i would try and get some info and opinions on them. anything appreciated :)

1.4's make good first cars

read up on insurance fronting... since you will be having a crash you will want to make sure you're insured legally

to be honest i would go with the 1.4 but try find a sport as they have nice interior...i was quite supprised with the big difference from between upgrading..probably not wise to get a gti straight off as you will love having the power but have no clue when and how to use it..last thing you want is get a nice car and for it to go to the scrap yard in the sky from not being able to control it

true words spoken! i started with a k reg escort 1.3, only had it 2 months (i.e 2 months driving experience!!) and then sold it to buy a mk2 golf gti! it's bastid scary getting into something like that when all you've (most likely) driven is the 1.1L learner car (or similar)

id agree with everyone else, not long after the test i had a 306 dturbo, 90bhp, it was plenty powerfull for a R plate id almost go far enough to say too powerfull, and the 65bhp ibiza at the min 2 years later is still enough for some fun, i can walk away for all my mates in a variety of cars, only round the bends like, and not long ago i drive a bmw 325i, for a few days in the floods 200bhp, rear wheel drive, fun, but dangerous if you werent used to the power and the back wheels trying to point you the other way, get a slow car and learn to drive it fast rather than getting a fast car and learning how to flip a car off its roof.

I totaly agree with you there matey im 17 and ive got a 1.4's :D it might not be the most powerful car but sit it low and get some good tyres and its a right laugh round the bendy stuff, ive had the privilige of driving a friends 8v gti and if id stayed in it anylonger id have probably binned it :drive2: :D haha.
I think the best thing about the car is that its not very common, its not mega rare but all my m8s drive 106's, clio's, corsa's, fiesta's and all that other rubbish ;) but mines different and way cooler

I like it for not being too comon either

insurance is all legal so it shouldn't be a problem

i like the look of them and and the interior of the facelift models are nicer so thats the one that i would like, are they solidly built ?

1.4's are really fun to drive, reliable aswell (cross fingers) apart from the dreaded peddle box lol. I am selling mine in a few months as i am getting a 2.0 gti 16v.

Try get a 1.4 s aswell as the interior is nicer and it comes with an 8v spoiler already attached.

Mainly just a creaking when you push the clutch down as this could mean pedal box. And just things like you would on other cars. Oil ect.

alrighty. hopefull i will have passed before i have my money ready so i can actually drive it when i test it.

are they roomy inside? i am about 6"1 so i am looking for a car that won't be too cramped and people might actually be able to sit behind me with the seat slided back

yeah, i think 5 is pushing it in most hatchbacks so im not too fussed about that. ive been looking on auto trader to see what i can get for my money and the choice is alot better with the ibiza than most other cars, unless i want a rover or a fiesta, both of which i hate...

im over 6 foot mate, on my second 3dr now. and although ive never sat in the back a couple of 6 foot ish friends always tell me its roomy lol, well except when its full of crap. all this talk of "power" a 8v gti is only 115bhp (apparantly) its not going to set the world on fire and its not too much. i found i had a 1.1L saxo and then a 1.6L mk2 Golf.. then the ibiza 2L 8v. i couldnt stand not having any poke.

Get the 1.4 its only insurance group 4 and its just about right for a first time driver. Theyre very reliable if properly cared for, i've had a few of them now and while they wont set the world on fire they are tax and insurance friendly, economical if not ragged and very practical - especially in 5 door.

If you want to scare yourself give it some in the wet and it'll sort that out.

You'll be fine height wise, i'm a six footer and i've never had problems.
