Hi All,

I'm new to this forum as I'm considering getting a K1...basically it will be the wifes car with me using it when I fancy a spin!

Can anyone give me their thoughts on the car and any problems they have? My one down point is that ther interior is a bit boring so are there any cheapish mods that can be doen to improve it? I.e making the headunit consile area look a bit better.

Also, what's the going rate for a 09/59 plate with say 20k on the clock?

I currently frive a modded Audi TT Mk1 225 quattro with about 270bhp but it's no good for taking my 9 month old son out in it!

Cheers

Rob

The facelift models have a nicer interior but I think the K1/bodykit version of the Cupra was only produced pre-facelift (change was sometime 2009-2010 I think). Personally I'd not bother with the bodykit - just get a facelift Cupra with tech pack or even a Cupra R if you're feeling very flush. ;)

Hi Rob,
The K1 is a Leon Cupra with the bodykit, so the problems will be the same as with all Leon Cupras.

The bodykit doesn't quite fit and can sometimes be a slightly different shade.

iirc you will not get an 09/59 plate K1 as the K1's where 2008 cars. mines a 58 plate.

The interior can be livened up with the Chrome kits for the door handles/speakers/dials. you can get these from most dealers, but speak to seremotors (Spell?) on here for a good price.

The car is a good family car, but is also great when it's just you and the empty open road.

Look for one with bluetooth as a minimum.

I have also got the reversing sensors, sunroof, conveniance pack and have found these to be great options for day to day driving.

x 2.

Cupra R basically adds 19" wheels, rear diffuser with twin exhaust (as per your TT) leather seats and 20bhp over Cupra, but they share engine and turbo, therefore remap to the same figures. Hefty price premuim for the extras though.

Oh, and the Tech pack is very good by the way, and an option on the Cupra and Cupra R;

It includes;

Front and rear parking sensors and a screen to show the area around the car on the radio
Auto Dimming Mirror
Auto Lights
Auto Wipers
Xenons
Sat Nav
SD Card reader (when it works)
Bluetooth

Costs less for the Tech pack than the body kit supplied painted and fitted.

Or go Cupra add skirts and spoiler, Tech Pack :)

Thanks for the feedback guys. The tech pack sounds interesting but as we are looking at second hand and on a budget (up to £15K) then getting a Cupra with this extra may prove difficult. I really like the K1 kit (and so does the wife! especially as it will be her car) but I suppose it all depends on price and what is out there.

As for the Cupra R I think that might be a bit too pricey....and the insurance might put the wife off!

You can add an aftermarket replacement unit; either the OEN RNS-510 SAT NAV or other replacement units with DVD etc. I would agree cheapest mod is the chrome dial covers which will lift it.

The standard ride can be a bit firm so its just a question if that suits the missus and nipper! Aftermarket Koni dampers can soften the ride without losing handling.

The only problem I have had, which I still have yet to get looked at is I have an internal oil leak (oil getting onto spark plugs and frying the coil packs). Already replaced the coil packs once but the underlying problem still there and as mine is modded SEAT reluctant to look at under warrnaty.
The car still runs fine with this fault and may not be something that is readily noticeable uless you remove the spark plugs and check as the K04 engine is very clever and will still run fine even if one of the coils not functioning properly. The best way to check this to take the ESP off and boot it through the gears. If the power stops and then goes again 1 or 2 times through the rev range it may have this problem as the timing is retarded and can't keep up with requested boost

Other than that its a good fun car for the money and many others out there for alot more that do not deliver as much fun!

500 quid on a remap will leave your TT feeling sorry for itself too as this adds max 60bhp to the 240bhp std

Just round the corner.
Agree that the the interiors are the biggest let down. They don't feel special, apart from sitting in those seats which are a really nice place to be. I'm working on the interior on mine, will be able to update in a few weeks (hopefully it'll work).

Hi Mate, just reminded me I didn't text you back!! Oops sorry!!

Yep still around. I had plannned to take the car to them a couple of weeks back but other than a phone call into the service centre who seemed particularly unhelpful, unknowledgeable and reluctant to look at it under warranty I have not followed up.

My warranty expires in June so best get cracking, my main concern is they will do as with your and nip to B&Q and silicone seal everything!!!

The front bumper on the FL is not to my taste being fair. The prefacelift is a better looking. Mine aint finished yet though :)

I also have a 2009 2.0TSI with K1 kit.

Original seat k1 kit, had it fitted when I bought it from seat dealer -

I thought the main difference between the 2 kits are that the rears are different,

BTCC tend to be twin pipes exit either side (or one side only)
The k1 centre exit !!!!!!

So I believe -

Aaaah, the usual suspects slagging off the K1

What is it they say, the minority are always the ones who voice their opinions?!

The K1 is far better looking than the normal Cupra. The normal Cupra's look crap from the back and almost every owner seems to end up putting on side skirts, spoilers and other bits to make them looke better! And as for the FL Cupra, that front bumper is laughable

As I've said in previous posts, you don't see K1 owners taking bits off their cars or putting new bits on to improve the looks.

If you like the K1 then go for it, as it holds it value better than a normal Cupra - the only people who seem to dislike it are a select few on here
