Having a bit of a pain with my car. Has developed a shudder through the steering wheel from around 75Mph to 85Mph. Above and below it's fine.

Have had all 4 wheels checked and balanced yesterday. Had them re-balanced this morning but shudder is still there. Anyone have any suggestions what to look for?

Have spoken to Seat. Car is booked in for test on Tuesday but, Seat say they will not test the car over 70Mph (understandable but still annoying). If they can't find the problem at 70Mph, does that mean I have to stick below 70Mph or above 85Mph.

Oh yea, Seat say this won't be covered under waranty ??? Balancing sure, but I've already done that, twice !

Ive got a very similar problem on mine. I was presuming it was the balance as i just had my wheels powder coated. Will watch this thread with anticipation on a good easy fix

It also may be that one of your tyres is not sitting on the rim correctly or is misshapen, this can cause the problem but is difficult to spot and may not show up when balancing.

I have a similar problem and my disks are badly worn so could be that?

Disks look fine but they will be changed at the weekend anyway (was going upgraded anyway)

Think i nede to have a close look at the tyres as two were part worns i had on my other spare wheels

Anything else like a droning sound?

No funny noises or anything. Car drives and brakes fine normally. The brakes have started squeeling at low speed (moslt parking speeds). Assumed this was more annoying than damaging.

I've only done 12700miles. Will be in deep trouble if the missus finds out I need new brakes  :brucelee: :headhurt:

I had this exact same problem and the owner before me had had it checked out by a dealer too.

When I took the car to Westec for a service Jock said that the rear tyres were wearing in an odd cup pattern which is usually a symptom of failing dampers.

I took the car to the stealer - they replaced the rear damepers and low and behold the vibration was cured.

It was happening exactly at the speeds you describe.

That sounds interesting as I was told around 40000 they recommend changing the dampers as they begin to loose there affectiveness....?

Think I might have to look into FSD's!!!..... :D :D :D

Check out the back tyres for any abnormal wear.

As I say changing the dampers on mine sorted it straight away and the symptoms were exactly the same as you are experiencing.

The vibration was in the same specific speed range.

I had all my wheels changed two weeks ago. Fronts went on the back (GSD's replacing Zero's) and semi new ones went on the front (Off of another set of LCR alloys i had been using before taking the tyres off and selling the rims) Plus the coilovers are less than a month old so im wondering if mine could be just odd worn tyres bedding into there new position.

Ive still got two spare wheels and tyres so may try them and see if it makes a difference

I'm going to see if I can go out with the Seat guy on Tuesday. If he won't go over 70Mph I sure will

It's a bit scary to have this many potential problems, I've only just clocked 12800 miles :(

Kinda sad too, I stopped riding my bike to work as the LCR is more fun. Now I just get annoyed and scared of the shaking wheel. Guess it's back to twistys on 2 wheels for Monday :scary:

ok - to add to the list - i have same problem but from 55-65mph. Ever since i got new wheels/tyres.

Had all wheels balanced twice, still do it. I recon its a misshaped tyre too. However, they are brand new, so i don't really want to go through and replace them. Just live with it til they are knackered.
