Just test driven a 52 reg tdi 130 sport.
There is a knocking noise coming from both sides (i think) front suspension. The wishbone bushes have recently been replace. Both springs are still intact. Any ideas?
Is this noise normal?

yeah mainly over bumps or if there is a lumpy gear change at lower speeds(mainly 1st-2nd gear).
I have had the car on a ramp and had a quick look at the suspension boot which apears to be fine.
What do you recon?

as nath warr said could be the rear engine mount!
is it a clang noise or a rub noise or a knock noise or a grind noise??????

will have to get her back on a ramp and take a look. the sound is more of a cross between a knock and a rub but only at lower speeds? has anyone else had a similar issue?

where is that located in conjuction with the passenger side wheel? I greased the wisbone bushes up the other day thinking it may be them but both are sound?
Also with the 130pd engine what is the recomended time period of gearbox oil change? if its not a sealed unit?
Cheers.

I had a noise like this on my MK4. With all my mods i'd ruled out top bearing and mounts, ARB bushes and wishbone bushes, as these are now all new. Ive aslso had the TCA bushes changed. Well the noise was still there especially on the RHD side on full lock. Ive now since put new hubs/bearing carriers as part of my brake upgrade and the noise had gone. Im now thinking that the noise was coming from the lower ball joints that connects the bearing carriers to the wishbone.

mines creaking a fair bit changed droplinks but loking at this area i think the droplink will always foul with the wheel arch linning. but there are loads of things that it could be

Right, found the problem.

There is a plastic collar that goes between the ARB and the bush. On both sides this has fallen to bits, allowing the antiroll bar to move about (wondered why the back came out quite a lot).
Will order 2 new bushes and collars and hopefully that will solve it :):)

do you know if the plastic collars have a slit down them to replace? mine were in a million pieces so difficult to say.
