does it "need " fitting to the crash bar?
do they all fit to it?
vrs has a vast expanse between rad and rear of bumper.i'm thinking of fitting it into the bumper rather than bolt it to the car.

From what I can tell, the intercooler bolts onto two welded brackets on the top edge of the crash bar - if you've got the tools and skills to weld, then it probably isn't that hard. But as for sizing, you'd want to make sure it'd fit behind the bumper, without any cutting of parts or fouling on stuff. I mean, even the forge needs a bit of trimming in the O/S fog light region to get the samco's through..

Buy a selection of the above, Then buy a few straight lengths from below

Thats the pipework sorted.

Then all thats left to do is the mounting.

Now this is the part I am not too sure about, but by the look of things it may possible to use a few self tappers on the intercooler "mounting brackets", or maybe even some threaded bar. but as I say this is the only thing slowing me down on fitting one.

Only something to consider:

One thing I know i wouldnt want to be messing with is safety.
Seeing as the crash bar is there to save my life, I don't want to start messing around with it, especially using self-tapers and potentially weakening the bar.

Now i doubt it would create any MAJOR weaknesses, but think about it anyway.

Jase dude - document it - and then it can go in the guides section.
List all the parts you need and approx costs - would be awesome to be able to compare it to Forge, APR and neuspeed items :)

You could always make support brackets that 'clamp' to the crash bar...........

Exactly what i was trying to get at mate - rather than use self-tappers :)

The intercoolers are not going to be particularly light - so i expect a clamp is NEEDED to keep it permanently attached

i have just had the tape measure out.if it wasn't the the bonnet catch on the vrs,it will drop down in the mahoosive gap between the crash bar and the rad.hose route will need mr stanley knife to assist,or i coul just drill a couple of 3 inch holes and pass them through.
got laminated flooring to finish off today or i'd be whipping off the bumper.

.......if the IC is too big your radiator will get 0 cooling, and your car will overheat

Sorry Pabs, I totally disagree with that. There's loads of evidence to suggest that an IC in front of your rad, no matter what size, makes bugger all difference to water temps.

Jase - which IC did you go for in the end?
