lol, yh thats true :)
For all those who doubt how much power aircon uses, in the handbook it says that using the aircon can increase fuel consumption by 12% so it follows that it also robs you of 12% of your power. Try doing 100mph on a flat road and then turn on the aircon while keeping the throttle in the same position, your speed will drop to about 95mph!

Maybe if you have a 1.0 corsa with 60hp thats maxes out at 102mph.

For two weeks I done an 80 round trip using the same driving style every day and trying my hardest to get the mpg as high as possible and with the air con off a was 1.4 mpg less than with it on.

Why would seat over estimate how much difference to MPG it makes when it's a negative point to the car? Put the aircon on LO so it's running full whack and try a 0-100mph, then do the same with it off. The difference is huge, before i had the car mapped it was easily noticeable if it was switched on. Obviously if you've just got the snowflake lit up but the aircon isn't running because the cabin temp is the same as you've got it set to, then it won't make any difference.

Aircon compressor turns off when you nail it anyway so it makes f*ck all difference whether the snowflake is on the display or not.

It does when it's on auto but not when it's set to manual, try it if you don't believe me! My point still stands though, that when it's on full whack it can use UPTO 12% more fuel

I always keep it on manual control so its always going to the screen and vents, and with the aircon 'on', you can hear the compressor clutch disengaging when the foot goes down ;) then re-engages when you lift off.

Never said your point re aircon using more fuel didn't stand, was just disagreeing with it making a big difference over a 0-100 sprint. It will have more drag on the engine as you first pull away and get up to full throttle (or whatever the setpoint of engine load % it needs), after that it would stay disengaged until you lift off.

Felt it going down the strip at crail, sat at the line in cool aircon'd air, foot down and you can feel the difference in the interior temp by the time you get to the end of the quarter, then it cools again on the slower drive back to the strip lol.

civics are quick to 60mph but top speed is a joke on the 2nd gen ones, 112mph! lol. Get outrun by a 1.6 focus top end

Maybe i need to check my compressor switch out then because with mine set to LO and on manual on the panel, it definitely stays on all the time, even under full throttle. i'll get it on vagcom 2moz
