Installing Fan washers

Hi guys

Mr SEAT tells me that their ordering system doesn't give any description to say that the heated fan washer jet actually fits the Leon, so basically they can order it but if it doesn't fit on my head be it, can anyone confirm that the number quoted above is a SEAT number, I am tempted just to get a set from my Skoda garage or VW parts specialist as they will no doubt be cheaper.

Cheers

I ordered and received a pair of fans but taking the old ones off is proving to be a pain. Is there some trick to it?

Nothing special - they just ease out with a trim tool or similar

The pipe has a white clip on it - you need to slide the white clip out before you pull off the pipe.

push pipe on to new fan washer and then push white clip back in

then clip new washer in to bonnet.

Just grip it firmly and it will pull up from the front where the jet sprays. Once you get the front lifted the whole unit will lift out.

Look at the pics in post 1 to see the way the unit clips in.

It might be a bit stiff but it will pull out without breaking.

Got it in the end - the old ones were attached pretty bloody tight and refused to budge. Once I managed to prise the front up enough to slide a trim tool in the rest was easy.

After initially finding this thread I too decided to upgrade to the fan washers, thought I was being clever and ordered a pair off a chinese ebay seller at the price of £10.95 the pair delivered.

When they eventually arrived, upon examination they looked just like the pics of the fan spray ones.

Like nsheridan said, mine also were bloody tight, and whilst in the process of carefully removing them they snapped in 3 or 4 bits. I wasn't too bothered however, because of the fact I had replacements to fit.

Upon testing - what a rip off ! even though they had the fan type head, all they did was to emit a single jet of water out onto the very low part of the screen, even when adjusted up to their maximum height.

Obviously after sourcing two more replacements from an english seller (£21.98)the pair, the chinese ones have been bined ! Beware !!!

My £10 chinese pair work flawlessly. Perhaps you were just unlucky.

Yeah, although to be fair I've had other parts for the car from chinese sellers and they've been ok

For those, who would like to have fan washers but don't want to pay in total around 50€ for these, I give small tip: the same washers are also used by other VAG cars, including older models. So go and check salvage yard, you might be lucky.
For example I paid 15€ for a pair (heated ones, normals are most probably even cheaper).
I got them from VW Passat B7 year 2010-

Fitted my heated fan ones today in <5 minutes, got them from a Skoda dealer on eBay. May need a slight adjustment with the adjuster but seem ok for now in the driveway. Much better than the pistols. Does anyone know if MY15 or MY16 cars have got fans or still pistols?

All,
I ordered two of these only for the guy at the other end saying they were the wrong ones for the 5F (MK3). He claimed they were 5F0955986A (and 5A).
Confusing answers.
Is it that these 5M0955986C9B9 fit both 1PZ and 5F and were discontinued by Seat for whatever reason.
All help greatly appreciated.

from a very quick look at the first post it seems that
ending in 985 = unheated
ending in 986 = heated
beginning with 5M0 = fan spray
beginning with 5F0 = pistol spray

all of which fit the leon mk3
could well be wrong though.

Looks ok to me also, but then so did the ones I got from China ( NOT the same seller). Correct part number and picture was of the spray type washers.

When fitted, is all I got was a very strong single jet, even though they had the spray pattern type of head.
