A lot of venom posted on this thread, with people getting quite worked up about the subject. Almost like a few people feel they have something to prove, which I can't figure out. If you love your car, why worry about what anyone else says?!
Here's my 0.2p: Firstly I've owned a both the Tdi Sport and the Sport Ka. The Tdi Sport was modded with Eibach Suspension Kit, Strut Brace, Remap.
IMO Even with the uprated suspension kit on the
Ibiza, Sportka was so much better in the handling department. It is a seriously well set up car and makes bendy country roads/roundabouts great fun.. it is at least as good as the MR2 Roadster I owned round twisty roads. It has a wider track than standard, stiffer suspension and is lower. It has loads of grip and great feedback. Although this won't go down on an
Ibiza owner's forum, I never, ever rated my
Ibiza in terms of handling. This is not the car's strong point. It is, at the very best, average. There is way too much roll, it's crashy, bouncy, over assisted and not communicative enough, this doesn't mean I didn't like my
Ibiza overall, but also wasn't under the illusion it was a great handler when I owned it.
Biggar - You may point and laugh at this: "On the other hand, the Sport Ka, as its name implies, is rather more of a sports car, and a very worthy competitor to the MINI One and Cooper. You get the well-proven handling qualities of the tin-top Ka, improved with 16” wheels, 195x45 tyres, sorted suspension and the bigger 1.6i overhead cam motor. O-60 is about 9.5 seconds; not fantastic, but enough. It tops out at around 110, but with only 20mph per 1,000 rpm is happier under 100. And, with sharper handling than the Street Ka, yet still very decent ride quality, it’s a whole heap of fun. Eventually, of course, it understeers, but lift off a tad and you’re straight back on line without any back-end drama. So it’s safe as well."
And you followed it with:
"If that could beet[sic] a 20v t around a race track I will stick my D*ck between my legs and cluck. I could take my turbo off and still beet[sic] it"
Firstly.. lmao about the clucking bit.
Thing is, nowhere did it say your
Ibiza wouldn't beat it round a track, in fact with Cupra power I would be amazed if it didn't. Put it this way, for the Ka to have a chance the track would need to be small, twisty and technical..lol I really do rate the handling of this little car though, and it is a good laugh to drive. I honestly think it is as good as a mini cooper handling wise - and yes, I've driven one of these too.
Earlier you said "It only handles cos it's so slow ~94bhp from wot i can see, it couldn’t even pull you out of bed. Not saying they there Sh*t for wot they are there ok but never in the same league as a
Ibiza Cupra 20v T"
I can't see the correlation between handling and speed. If you gave an
Ibiza less power, would it suddenly handle better? Course it wouldn't. And of course it isn't going to be the same power wise as a Cupra 20vt. The Cupra has
double the power. Does this make it twice as good to drive! Unfortunately not. There is more to how something drives than the figures, as anyone who has driven an original mini or mx-5 will know! Figures only interest a 'certain' type of crowd! Also, all this talk of the car being slow makes me laugh. 0-60 9.5secs, pretty much the same as the Tdi Sport Fab VRS Hmm...lol.
However, the
Ibiza has many advantages. I.e. an engine that isn't agricultural and is decently powerful, much better build quality and is probably a bit more of a comfortable place to be - plus the image!. Both cars are good in their own right, depending on what you want from a car and and what you'd pick it for, but to rubbish a cars ability purely on one aspect of it (power) is a rather misguided way of looking at things, particularly when the same thing could be said in terms of handling about the
Ibiza.
