Hi

I'm hoping someone out there can help. I'm having a pit of a nightmare programming the remote on a new key that I've purchased for my car. I've tried the manual method numerous times, but to no avail.

After a bit of digging, I was advised to try pairing the key through VAG-com. (http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/vw-remote-matching.html) A very kind fellow forum member who has VAG-com helped me out and popped round... but we were still having no joy.

Basically she got as far as the computer showing how many keys were currently stored (1). She then entered the new total number of keys (2) in the 'new value' box and pressed 'test' - however it refused to update, and continued to show '1' in the test value... as such we didn't get much further!

Does anyone have any ides what could be wrong? Just FYI she also ran a diagnostic, and found a handfull of fault codes:

Could these be causing some sort of conflict with the remote programming? Also out of interest, do these fault codes look particularly serious? The car seems to be running fine, and everything seems to work...

Many thanks in advance!

u tried clearing those codes then re scanning mate?

I haven't tried this - is it likely to make a difference? I'm afraid I've only had the car about 8 weeks, and this was my first experience with VAG-com... so it's all very new to me!

Try saving a zero in there first. This should wipe out the existing remote matching. Then put the count of remotes that you want to match.

-Uwe-

I'm happy to give this a shot, but would it mean that I could potentially screw up my good key too if i'm then unable to pair the remotes?

Cheers

is it just the remote part your trying to get to work not the imobiliser. if it is put your current key in the ignition and turn it off, then lock the car using the key in the lock ( speare key) with the new remote your wanting to add to the car press the unlock button once count 6 seconds and press unlock again, you should hear a beep from the car, the remote will no work with the car. open the door remove other key out of ignition and test the key.

Yeah - it's just the remote. The new spare key works fine to unlock the car manually and start the car up, I'm just damned if I can get the remote to work.

The method I was told for a Leon was to put the normal functioning key in the ignition, turning it to the on position (dash lights on, but not actually turning the engine over).

After this, I was told I had to get out of the car, lock the car manually with the new key. Then unlock and lock again whilst holding the unlock button on the remote. (I think this all had to be done within 30 seconds)

I tried this dozens of times (along with several variations) but no joy. That said, I haven't tried your exact version, so I'll give it a shot tomorrow. I have to admit that I'm starting to despair so I'm not holding out a great deal of hope. You'll be my hero if it works though!

Cool - i'll give it a shot when I get home from work tonight!

I just wanted to clarify a couple of things about your instructions - to make sure I'm reading them correctly:

is it just the remote part your trying to get to work not the imobiliser. if it is put your current key in the ignition and turn it off, then lock the car using the key in the lock ( speare key) with the new remote your wanting to add to the car press the unlock button once count 6 seconds and press unlock again, you should hear a beep from the car, the remote will no work with the car. open the door remove other key out of ignition and test the key.

So let's say that my normal fully functional key is key A, and the spare key that I am trying to program is key B.

- I put key A in the ignition and leave it in the off position (is this completely off, or should the dash lights be on? Also should I turn the ignition on first with the key, then turn it off again... I'm just wondering how the car will 'know' that the key is there...)

- Leave key A in the ignition, get out of the car and manually lock the door with key B

- Then I need to press the unlock button on key B twice - leaving 6 seconds between presses. Do I need to do this while the key is still in the lock or should it be taken out first?

Sorry to sound completely dozy - just want to be sure I'm getting it right!

Cheers!

1 - get both keys - the one with the remote (A) and the normal key (B)

2 - note this must be done within 30 seconds as the synchro process cuts off after that (all will be revealed)

3 - make sure the car is unlocked and the window open before you start

4 - use key (B) to switch on the ignition (lights on dash NOT startup)

5 - use key (A) to lock the drivers door manually (ie key in the door lock) or NS if you have the 2002 on model with only one door lock

6 - now UNLOCK then LOCK the drivers door WHILST HOLDING the unlock button on the remote

7 - once done take key (B) out of the ignition - sorted

thats how i've always done it - i leave the window open so i can do it all from outside

the 6 second one works on mk1 leons as there is a big thread i started on everything you need to know for getting the key working
you did follow it correctly
http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=102433

Funnily enough that'd the thread that made me want to get a flip key...

I've tried the 6 second method about 15-20 times so far... no joy

Have I interpreted the instructions correctly? I've asked a couple of questions in one of my earlier posts in this thread:

Yeah - the manual says the same method as Fl@pper posted - which I've tried numerous times without success :(

what part no. is the key?

I'm not too sure if i'm reading the right number, but the new (flip) key shows:

1J0 959 723

My old (functioning non-flip) key shows:

5FA 007 680

Does that sound about right? I know that the old key says 433Mhz, and the new one says 434Mhz, but after reading other threads I was led to believe that this shouldn't matter...

spare in ignition turned to on.
lock with key (turn in lock)
press lock
press unlock (will make bleeping noise)
## i kept alternating a few times until it worked ##
turn ignition off

job done

i dont know of any reason why it wouldnt work except battery?
