Help ibiza cupra 1.8t 180 or cupra 1.9 tdi pd 160

I'm looking to buy a cupra ibiza in March but sure which model to go I have just sold my
Grande punto 1.9 130
Which was mapped to 185 so am leaning toward the 1.8t I do a mixture of driving in town and a little more on the motorway I know the 1.8t does around 28 mpg
But only keep
My cars a year before I sell them the 1.8t is a little less on insurance can people give me there views on both models pros and cons and mpg figures and running costs of both models going to remap which ever model I get anyway

My remapped FR 1.8T does 40+mpg on the 35 mile dual carridgeway trip to work when driven sensibly.
It is faster and more reliable than the PD which is a bonus.

And you can get 70mpg out of the PD if you drive it sensibly, there really is no comparison in terms of economy.

How do you come to the conclusion that it's more reliable?

I'll grant you that it's faster though, certainly "like for like".

A clutch and turbo replacement are the most talked about things on PD's where as i havent had problems with any and almost at 100k now.

Maybe thats down to the driver so correct me if im wrong :)

Nor have I had any problems with my clutch or turbo on my remapped PD130, and I too am just shy of 100k.

The PD130 is a very reliable engine, turbo failure is obviously more likely if it's remapped and pushed to the limits, but it is by no means a common thing. A clutch is a "wear and tear" item, and you would expect to replace it during the life of a diesel engine anyway. A lot of the clutch replacements are to SMF flywheels etc to allow more power to be run than what would otherwise be the case on a stock clutch.

If you scroll down the list of threads on here there is a lot of turbo/clutch issues but yea most are remapped.

But to the OP if you do decide to get the PD Jake you will need to change the clutch if it hasnt been done already. A remap on the 1.8T and your safe with everything pretty much. All based on a REVO remap but lets not start another war with which remap is best.

You won't need to change the clutch, unless it either goes, or you want to change the clutch. Most PD owners run a remap with no clutch issues. The difference is that no one starts a thread titled "Had a remap for 18 months, and my original clutch is fine".

I'm planning to get a REVO stage 1 on my TDi Cupra in the next couple of weeks. Standard original clutch at 66,000 miles.

Will it last for years or wrap its tits in on the drive home?

I actually have a dilemma as far as clutch goes. My clutch is gone and needs replacing regardless. I have TDI with hybrid turbo and about to get a map, I don't know whether if I replace with the standard clutch and dmf it will hold up to this kind of power and for how long, assuming I'm driving it like it should be driven ;) ? What are peoples opinions.

If you plan on keeping the car for a while I would definitely go uprated.

Standerd clucth won't last long on hybrid power but saying that it all depends on how u drive your car my slef I'd go for an uprated clutch to make sure it lasts

hybrid + standard clutch = big no no.

With all the parts correctly sorted before remapping and messing with power the pd is ultra reliable. Only thing that has actually broken of its own accord on mine was number 2 glow plug.

Turbo only died on me after a moment of madness and the clutch was replaced prior to remapping after my hybrid went on. The bottom line is that if you want more power out of a pd then uprate the right bits and don't bodge stuff.

One of the biggest things that baffles me on here is how many people blow boost pipes off! Never had it happen once on mine, even before I uprated the top pipework, i'm still actually using the lower pancake pipe and standard turbo outlet with no issues.

I've done 25k miles at my current spec and the engine is sweet as a nut.

Modding on a budget usually costs more in the long run.

I thought the Revo stage 1 software kept the torque down to save the standard clutch?

130,000 miles on my cupra tdi, mapped for around 20,000, clutch, flywheel and turbo all fine.

Owned for over 3 years, always get 50mpg on a full tank running around 300ft of torque and 200bhp

Screw the chavvy revs and disruptive noise, go derv, you wont regret it !

Torque on the petrol is pretty embarrassing and they are not that much quicker, there is about half a second difference 0-60 and above that my money would be on the cupra tdi beyond that.

Know this for a fact when a leon mk2 cupra R couldnt keep up ! We can all argue this all day and do diseal vs petrol thread - but in this case the TDI ibiza is the best for everyday life over the petrol :)
