Having read the "you know you own a mk2 when..." thread I feel i may have come a cropper of "...no matter how many times you fix the heat shield it still rattles"

Under power or varying amounts of lateral G (think a roundabout at anyhting over 10mph) or at worst a combination of the two it sounds like something below the gear stick moves and is followed by a more exhaust noise, a rattling, then if you wring it out a vibration through the cabin. (During 15 minutes on track at castle Combe (which is mostly flat out) my fillings nearly came out! :D

It's not every single journey and sometimes you don't even have to be going for it to cause it; sometimes even a gentle small throttle application wll also prompt it!

while i can handle it most of the time (the car is only used for a 10 miles each way commute) when me and the other half took a trip in it to a friends the other day she almost refused to come back in it!!

If i can get underneath what am i looking for and what can i do to attempt to shut it the hell up!?? :)

take the heat shield off grab a pair of pliers and a flat head and get under the car and start ripping it out!

mines all gone and i now have a very quiet car :) took about 45mins but worth it!

if it is the heatshield, just get some small self tappers, and screw it back to the bottom of the car...
it could also be the centre section hitting the tunnel if its a deeper noise

I reckon it could actually be both then!!

I get a kind of higher pitch buzz as well as a lower burrrrr exhaust note

Time to find a ramp, get under there and start poking bits to see what's loose!
