GT2X is fitted at last

Today i took delivery of my GT2X eliminator kit, Nice peice of kit to be honest, was supprised to find that the new turbo is not water cooled.

It looks like its gonna be simple to fit aswell except for the intake pipe, which is a Forge S3 TIP with S3 MAF and BMC CDA induction, Looks like its gonna be a tight fit. Jim @ Star performance says i need to relocate my coolant bottle infront of PAS Bottle to make it fit,

Will be fitting the turbo kit on sunday with a bit of luck, so will therefore have a low milage K03S and Forge MK3 Ibiza TIP in Red for sale. Turbo has done about 6000 miles, 5000 of which is on my car. I want to sell them together really and looking for £ 350 for both delivered. PM me.

I will try and get photo's etc and put a guide together.

Matt

Happy days. Get loads of pics of it all!

Have you thought about gettin hard pipes made up instead of the S3TIP so you dont have to relocate the bottle?

Thats worth a thought. Might be a pain though cause my car needs to be on the road all the time, so getting time to get one fabricated would be hard.

not water cooled?
wtf is that about?

1st i have read that.

not a good move imho

Yeah i know what you mean, the larger GTRS is water cooled, but hey, will see how it goes. There must be a reason for it.

They supply you with a braided hose for linked the water pipes together to bypass turbo.

Will be running a 1.25 BAR map so should run cooler as it wont be working as hard, ( or is that bollocks? ) just what people have told me.

I think its quite common in ford circles to run non-water cooled turbos, something to do with the turbo heating the water up to such a degree that on long bursts on boost their engines heat up to a massive extent. Its cheaper than small rad for the turbo water supply too.

See how you get on with it, sounds like an interesting conversion that i may be interested in, keep us posted.

Rick (p.s. about how much did the kit set you back, p,m me if you like)

just seem like a backwards step to me.
turbo's used to be oil cooled only, but then water cooled, oil lubed and were more reliable for it... improved cooling of the bearings, hence longer life.

maybe they did'nt want the extra complexity of the water jacket in their castings, or could'nt do it technically or something.

So thats £999 for everything needed then?

Obviously you will need the supporting uprated downpipe/exhaust mods, intercooler and a remap but that seems reasonable.

Are uprated injectors needed or does the 4bar fpr do the job?

Seems like a good way to get fairly big power from these cars.

Rick

Edit: just read your spec and saw that you have a different exhaust manifold too so thats another to the list.

with the gt2x kit you don't need any mods @ exhaust
plug&play with the K03. with the sportmanifold you go for 290-300 bhp :)

oh dear bill, i think the boys will get your coat for you lol

seems strange the turbo isnt water cooled although im sure they've considered lifespan when manufacturing it, cant wait to see pics of it fitted!

writeup/important details would be great too!

old renault 5 gt turbo's were oil cooled only, then phase 2's came with water cooled...

in the name of reliability.

however, my Renault 11 turbo ran 22psi boost, rejetted carb (yes carb!) and modded ign & intercooler for many 1000's of miles ragged rotten. howled for a while then sorted itself out.. baby little t2 i think it was. - all that from only an oiled cooled turbo.

Last night i fitted the GT2X turbo kit.

Does it work with stage 2 REVO?

Well i would have to say YES. Running S3 injectors @ 4 BAR with a S3 MAF and S3 TIP with boost controller. Before installing the boost controller i gave it a run up the road to find it wasn't happy, Peaking @ 25 PSI then dropping to 10 PSI straight away popping and farting etc.

Installed boost controller and set at 15 PSI for safe measure until it is remapped.
I must say it goes a lot better @ 15 PSI than the K03S did @ 22PSI. Iam very impresssed with it.

It takes some getting used to as it is quite laggy, it starts pulling hard @ 3500 RPM with not a lot before hand, it pulls very well to the redline holding 15 PSI easily. The exhaust housing is much bigger than the K03S housing.

It will be mapped by Jim @ Star performance on a 1.25 BAR map, to produce around 280 - 290 BHP.

Fitting was relatively simple and took about 8 Hours labour with the use of a 2 post ramp. A few modifications are required to make this kit fit, but i will explain all in the guide ( when i get round to it)

All i need to now is to install the BMC CDA when it arrives, tidy up some wires etc and get it mapped. THEN LET THE FUN BEGIN;)

nice work mate, did you get any install pics. Would love something like this but ma y have to settle for a K03s for now. What map are you having?? Do Star have their own software or will they just tweak the revo and tune the boost controller??

id hazard a guess that the 3500 rpm will lower to around 3000 by the time software etc is matched to the kit. i wouldnt fancy waiting til then especially if i was in slow moving traffic and try to hoof it.
