Just to pick up one of the niggles from the other post....

any1 on here managed to quieten down their gearbox whine by using a certain oil or sumin?
Also what is the size of the inverted bolt for the drain plug as only got normal spanners so need one of those hexagonal bars of the right size to check the gearbox oil. Got an 085 gearbox from a 1.4 by the way.

Does EN80 mean anything to anyone? It think that is what my mechanic put into my gearbox at 103,000 miles to reduce whining and synchromesh problems.

Sorry, absolutely no idea! The mechanic has appaling handwriting so I can't decipher what he wrote on my invoice. All I can remember is that he said he had deliberately not put the 'normal' transmission fluid in because of the age of the gearbox. He said that the stuff he had put in would be a bit thicker when cold - so I guess the 80 is just the viscosity?? (compared to the 90 which I'm guessing is standard).
