Any recommendations for pads and discs? I’m thinking TRW as they are the OEM supplier.

TRW are the OEM brake system/caliper supplier - but not the PAD supplier. They do not make OEM pads.
Same with ATE, Brembo, Bosch etc..

Personally I would but from pad friction lining producer.

For discs I would just get any coated disc with R90 approval - as this gives a reasonable max machining tolerance limit.

Interesting. Who is it that makes the pads then?

So in both of your examples - ITT Galfer is the OEM pad producer.
Galfer is one of the bigger OEM manufactures.
7504FF is the OEM friction material.
TRW, and ATE on the second pad are just the brake system/caliper manufactures. As I said - they do not make the pads.

That's great information, where would one buy an ITT brake pad from?

Seat, Skoda, Audi or VW

Joking aside - it's very rare to find an OEM pad in an Aftermarket box. Certainly, no one in the aftermarket has a whole range of OEM pads in their aftermarket range.

OEM and Aftermarket have very different requirements.
The OEM pads, for example, use fine blanked back plates (more accurate stamping process - but needs very expensive tooling), which works for high volume low variety part numbers of the OEM but not lower volume high variety of the aftermarket. These tools are usually owned by the OEM so even if the producer wanted to sell them independently they wouldn't be allowed.

OEM uses tailored friction materials, fine tuned for the specific application over years of testing - vs aftermarket where some budget/premium brands only use 1 or 2 materials to cover their entire pads range!

OEM uses tailored anti-noise shims, AM generally uses a couple of types, or even just a crappy metal shim.

I can usually find the OEM pad for a good price - similar/not much more to the 'big name' aftermarket brands.

Very interesting information. I couldn’t find online anywhere to buy Galfer pads. It also looks like Galfer are part of Continental AG.

From researching as a follow up to this thread, Galfer are owned by ITT and ITT have an agreement with Continental to supply their aftermarket brake pads, which are under the ATE brand.

With this logic in mind, ATE pads should be produced by ITT via Galfer, but with extra steps.

TRW on the other hand, are part of the ZF group. Known for some great brands such as Lemforder and Sachs.

Correct.

Another OEM variant produced by Jurid! This one is harder to see - Jurid hard marked in the centre.

The ATE version of this same pad is 13.0460-2785.2 - and if you search for images (below) you can see the same friction code 7504FF as the OEM in this instance.
Trouble is - I can find OEM pads selling for similar prices to this ATE pad!

TRW version - try and find similarities with any OEM pad!

Once again, great information thanks. ATE pads are £53 on Autodoc.
Does anyone know who makes the OEM discs?
