Ive had this god awful creaking noise from the anti roll bar, we decided to change the d-link bushes on it but the noise is still there, its definatetly from there since we unbolted it from either end and rotated it and it creaks like an old grandmother!!

My garage spoke to audi tech and they say there are some plastic collars fixed to the roll bar that the bushes sit on and if its still creaking then these collars are loose and there is nothing you can do about it.

So has any one had experience of this?? is there a fix? are there actually plastic collars on the roll bar? and is the only way forward a new roll bar? and how much should I be paying?

I'm getting told its about £200 quid for the bar and a couple of hours labour to fit it, sound right?

Thanks for any help.

Yes, some of the (older) ARB's have plastic sleeves on them which crack and start to creak. My vrs octavia did just that. The new bars have a metal collar cast into them, so it isn't a problem on them.

You need to chisel the plastic off, if it doesn't just fall off, and fit new smaller (17mm on vrs) bushes and new clips.

Murder,

Not sure you have read my post mate, the bushes have been changed and it still makes the noise.

Fox,

No mate, not on reversing. Only when the suspension is moved, most noticably over speed bumps or hump back bridges, that sort of thing.

Rk,

Sounds about right, my man said that if I take off the plastic collar though that the bushes will not stay in place, does that sound right to you or does the smaller bushes do the trick??

Thanks all

The smaller bushes do the trick. You can get 19mm ones to fit on the plastic sleeves, or you can get 17mm ones which are supposed to fit on the new style bar with cast lugs on it, but fit the old bar once you have removed the sleeves.

You can get the all from AVS parts http://www.vwspares.co.uk/octaviasuspension.php

That's the page for the octy bushes. I'm not sure what the leon uses. Is it a cupra or an r?
