Does anyone know how current mappers of the VAG 170TDI engines manage to copy the contents of the ECU prior to remap?
I've been told that one of the stumbling blocks with mapping this engine is that there are currently no protocols for taking a copy of the contents of the ecu through the OBD port.
The only process to do this is by a direct connection onto the ecu. While this can be done you need to drill off the tamper proof bolts to open the ecu case which will leave distinct entry marks resulting in an invalidated warranty if this is checked.
Bear in mind that I'm not offering this as gospel- this is what I've been told and now I'm looking for your comments!
If you check some of my earlier comments/thread you will find that SS have built a "doggle" type device that scrambles/unscrambles the s/w [SS are also the prefered tuner for VW racing so probabley used this to gain access codes etc,] - this is the way ALL manufactures are going, MB and BMW have already gone this way. the other thing to remember VW are mixing the ECU manufactures across the brands this thows another spanner in the works too!!
